i don't really like it much. it's better than erase me but that's a pretty low bar. i think they're just going to be a nostalgia, DTGL-Ø band for me

This isnt saying much for me though, Erase Me was baaaad bad.

I don’t hate the new album but, gotta be honest the heaping praise i see for it in the album thread has me wondering if im listening to the same album.

Underoath never did much for me outside of a few songs here and there.

If I’m honest the album I listened to the most was The Changing of Times.

I mean theyre by no means a bad band, their discog is 100% worth a run, there is great stuff in there.

They hold a ton of nostalgia stock for me especially with TOCS but i do love DTGL and i think LITSOS is their best personally. I only just recently came around on Ø but it certainly rips hard.

I should give them a proper run through.

Erase Me is pretty damn terrible but No Frame is an absolute mega banger

Yeah, On My Teeth is tolerable and a bit enjoyable but meh, usually skip past it.

TOCS still their best and probably was the best melodic "screamo" if you will along with The Used s/t album

Yeah TOCS is my fav, most likely because of the nostalgia connected to it. LITSOS was truly memorable as well though and has a very special place in my heart.

Nostalgia, yes, but I truly believe it's a great album with great songs

I’ve said in the thread that there are 3-4 great songs in it. Though the new album overall is still not clicking. Though I’ve only listened twice

I feel that way about both TCOS and Define the Great Line. Lost in the Sound was just a little tick below greatness. I have zero use for Disambiguation though.

Edit: In reply to Steve's "great album, great songs" comment

has anyone noticed that thing soccer mommy does in some sons where her breathiness makes it sound like she's adding random Fs to words? you can really hear it in still clean (only what you wanted for a little fhile) and kissing in the rain (or as I like to call it kissing in the frain). it always sticks out to me like crazy and I hate it.

I think Ø is their only great album because it is the only one divorced from Aaron Gillespie’s pop sensibility and Daniel Davison’s drumming is top.

I guess it depends what you mean by “pop sensibility”, but more songs on Ø follow traditional pop structures than either of the two before it, no? DTGL has like two choruses haha. Ø feels the most pop driven than they’d been since Safety

Yeah the only Underoath I really like is the poppy stuff from Safety/DTGL

I don’t really think dtgl or litsos are very poppy, the latter especially

I was thinking less about structure than melody. I’ll have to revisit DTGL sometime. I really liked that record at the time, but then I was blown away by Ø and it’s their only record that has stuck in my esteem over time.
Also I still really associate Aaron with The Almost sound, and then when he wasn’t there they made their best record. Maybe “pop sensibility” isn’t the best way to describe what’s different about Ø.
