WELL it symbolically uses a strained father son dynamic to touch on many issues like environmental abandonment, influx of drugs into family life and technoligcal obsessions (very ahead of the curve) but i would just tell people dont be a LAZY bastard and watch the movie for yourself preferrably on acid. im not the messenger just an ADVOCATE

What are musicals that have music that is legitimately bad? Just about every musical I can think of, even if I may not be into the music all that much, it’s not as if they don’t clearly meet some sort of standard of “I can see why someone would like this, it is well crafted and/or fits my idea of what a musical song should sound like,” etc.

But the only musicals I really know are the big name famous ones and like Disney movies or whatever, never some low/mid budget musical written by someone who has no idea what they’re doing. Nor do I know of many musicals that really try to push the boundary by writing songs that may be less accessible to a general audience - that seems kind of out of bounds for musicals afaik

This is the most experimental song I’ve ever heard in a musical

The only musicals I've ever seen in person were The Lion King and American Idiot lol

I've been in a few musicals over the years and most of the soundtracks really grow on you - The Full Monty has a really jazzy feel to most of the songs, Catch Me If You Can is really bombastic, Rock of Ages is all 80's hits, the only one I really didn't love was Chicago and everyone on the planet but me loves it

I really don't like an artist named Jess Glynne. She's got this really acrobatic voice that based on her range is probably technically great, but its absolutely obnoxious to my ears - she rushes through almost every word in every song and it makes nearly every phrase sound spastic and weird. Not sure what her level of popularity is but damn, not for me

Someone mentioned film to stage adaptations being bad and 100% yes. American psycho is a top five movie for me but the musical was so so bad. So bad.

I really liked it at the time but I need to rewatch it it's been like ten years. I don't know if I like the whole using non human life forms as an analogy for racism thing

A film-to-stage adaptation really hinges on whether it can capture the same tone. Mean Girls worked pretty well for me because the musical's tone was very similar to the movie's, which isn't necessarily easy to do.

Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is a terrible song

It rehashes a melody done umpteen times before, lyrics are about as deep as a puddle, she yells half the damn song and then just repeats the title the rest

It’s fine. Not a bad song but not a song I feel compelled to listen to ever again.

    run away with me Platinum

Waitress, Legally Blonde, Hairspray and Little Shop are all great musicals which are adaptations

Shallow is supposed to be a song a waitress wrote in her free time and you have to appreciate it as such

Cooper sings perfectly fine for the character he’s playing.

“Shallow” is the bomb. Not my favorite song from that movie, personally, but great nonetheless.

Also, you guys know how many rock or pop singers are just passable vocalists, right?

revisiting their discography this week, i think i agree with this. LITSOS has their best songs but also a few of their worst. DTGL is purely nostalgia at this point.

whoa, whoa, so which UO songs are considered bad? (Well, nostalgia still does it for me though, big time).
