you said that you can’t think of another genre that’s done so little that has had such a legacy. it seems pretty clear from the majority of posts the last 24 hours and, like, the world the last 30 years, that it’s done quite a lot as a genre. again, you just don’t like it. that’s fine. that doesn’t mean it’s been disproportionately held up based on what it actually accomplished.

I mean I do get the argument that all these bands we’ve discussed, as great and seminal as they are, have influenced a bunch of bullshit

oh, that’s absolutely true. they’ve inspired tons of bad bad bad bands. it’s more the first sentence of the last paragraph that i disagree with.

also most genres that were huge inspired bullshit after. there have been tons of boring bad shoegaze bands in the back half of the 90s as well as the last five years. and look at thrash in the 90s. most musical acts of any genre looking to hop on a trend are going to be bad

Dallas must have been the cock rock capital of the US because the radio stations wouldnt stop exclusively playing songs from 1995 until after 2005. THAT is what was frustrating for me. And the post grunge bands.

    Anyways, grunge = Marvel. lol

grunge did kind of spawn all those butt rock bands of the 2000s for sure. im not into metalcore but from what i hear a lot of those bands are going buttrock now too so its a gift thats giving again. for that reason grunge kind of does suck in the same way pop punk does.

Grunge wasn’t the sole influence on buttrock. Metallica and the Black Album comes to mind, though I like some of those songs a lot.

like so many genres were having a moment in the 90s and early 2000s and youd never know it because the airwaves were holding up 1 single corpse of a genre instead

My favorite thing about Scott is that he was a total chameleon vocally. He sounded different from album to album, and sometimes even within the same album, had a completely different vocal style. He was one of a kind.

definitely uneven. there are a handful of songs on each album though that would be among the best of the decade

    Nice! Lyric or artwork?

This is correct. I like the albums but they're not super complete. One of the best Greatest Hits bands on the planet though.

I love Purple, fantastic record. I think they get a bad rap for being a grunge derivative because of Core but even that record has bangers.

Scott Weiland was one of my fav vocalists of 90s rock in general

Also Core and Purple are both no skip albums for me but I couldnt give a shit about anything after that in their discography
