Pop punk is awful for multiple reasons but the nasally vocals is one of the primary ones. It’s completely fake and childish.

I always hate when a British singer overdoes the American accent. I realise some words sound a bit cooler sometimes (like not pronouncing “can’t” as “carrn’t” like we actually do might rhyme or fit better) but there seems to be a trend of this kinda faux deep voiced southern twang going on in a lot of pop songs these days as if the guy is trying to sound like some old timey singer out of Louisiana or Mississippi in the 20s or something.

I know there’s kind of a generic singing accent that most people use that’s pretty American sounding anyway but sometimes it goes a bit far and just seems inauthentic.

Except for the really cringe pop punk/scene vocal “styles” I can’t really think of one that irks me.

Idek. I'm not familiar with that whole scene because it isn't pop punk or emo as I think of it. I guess maybe like metalcore or something? And then when they're not screaming they're doing those vocals.

Not an opinion on music per se, but that video reminds me how cringey I find the creation of most music videos to be. In middle school I thought they were actually playing their instruments and actually singing lol but then learned (probably from “Making a Video”) that they’re just miming the actions. And when you’re just... standing in a room with the band and a couple other people pretending to play music while actual music is playing... that seems super awkward and embarrassing to me lol

Yeah most videos where the band is “playing but not really playing” are really goofy

yea making this discovery was a huge mind blower, but also i tend to dislike music videos without the band playing.

My bf actually had like a metalcore band in the 00s and they had a music video with live shots and I just asked him about it. He said it didn't feel awkward since their music was playing loudly in the background while they were doing it. Still sounds awkward to me!!

I don't have a ton of musical instant turnoffs but one vocalist I can think of that makes everything he touches nigh-completely-unlistenable to me is Reeve Carney. He's a Broadway singer and most recently took a huge shit all over Hadestown (IE my favorite musical of all time that I was following since before it got on Broadway) and holy shit, he has the most insufferably annoying singing voice I've ever heard. At least Dave Mustaine's voice is funny. Carney is just intolerable.

So... Anybody that sings like him, I guess, LMAO.
