In terms of my enjoyment lol.

 

The Beatles wrote several of the greatest songs of all time, and also have more than a handful of just the dumbest most irritating songs.

imo please please me and beatles for sale really hit this spot. the live stuff on the first beatles anthology too

i may be overstating things a little... but they really wouldn't have existed as a band or had any following whatsoever if they hadn't spent a lot of time playing blistering soul covers live from the very start

 

upon further investigation, you should mainly listen to this, a really raw and rad set from their hamburg days when they were pretty much setting the stage on fire. the quality isn't amazing yet you can hear ringo totally killing it

I expressed to my bf that I don't care for much of the music he listens to but I couldn't articulate why very well. But like all of the singers have a sorta dated scene vocal style, kind of a whiny and nasal shout. Idk how to explain it. Anyway I wasn't trying to be a jerk he played me a few songs and asked if I liked them and I said no because of the vocal style like sry bro u asked. So I guess the way I'm trying to fit this into the context of this thread, are there any stylistic choices that can completely put you off of the music with few exceptions? Like whatever that vocal style is I'm trying to describe can be an instant turn off that I can't get past.

I know I'm gonna sound ignorant but it's REALLY hard for me to get into any singer with a southern drawl

So pretty much all of country music and a lot of southern rock doesn't appeal to me

 

Lol that is a good one. There are certain Dutch accents that make my skin crawl when used by singers/rappers. I do like the southern drawl as you call it.
