Depending on the day, I seriously consider Presence the best Zeppelin album.

I didn't listen to a Zeppelin album until I met my wife last year so I can't even weigh in

Dirt may objectively be the best, but S/T is my favorite AIC record

I think Black Gives Way To Blue is my second after Dirt

It's crazy that Alice in Chains has remained so good even after Layne. But I guess Jerry wrote most of the music anyways

I feel like both Alice In Chains and Blind Melon have both done pretty well without their original lead singer.

I think the only post-Layne material I’ve heard was Check My Brain. Will have to dig into it. 90s AIC is definitely my favorite band from the grunge era

Jar of Flies is the best AIC record and it's not even particularly close.

Even if it was a 7" with just "Nutshell" and "I Stay Away" it'd be a masterpiece.

  19. JM95

    hmmm

Dirt and Jar Of Flies are both tens.

Dirt is feast or famine for me. "Would?", "Down in a Hole", "Them Bones", "Rain When I Die", "Rooster" and "Angry Chair" rule. But stuff like the title track and "Godsmack" and "Sickman" and the other miserable junkie shit is pretty underwhelming.

dirt and s/t are easily their best imo. one of chris’ spiciest takes.

  22. I wish I cared for their post-Black Gives Way To Blue material, something stopped clicking afterwards. Jerry's solo albums are also worth a listen.

the last three are basically jerry solo albums.

But that wah-soaked riff on the title track tho

I mean the “miserable junkie shit” is what gives the album its character. It’s extremely raw, I wouldn’t have it any other way
