Dude sounds like he sucks in some helium right before he hit record

I really like Anberlin, but I've seen them live twice and Stephen's vocals have been a let-down on both occassions.

  3. Doesn't he always sound out of breath? That's what I gathered from so many live videos over the years

His vocals definitely trail off towards the end of each note, his voice just seems to get lost among the guitars. Probably not helped out by his sound guys, but it's something I've noticed on both occassions.

See also, Mayday Parade, which I'm always shocked by because I really rate Derek as a singer.

  5. I hear that. On the top off my head, it's noticeable on We Are Destroyer which isn't an easy song to sing.

Stephen has improved as a live singer, but it's still not his strong suit. Nothing that's really his fault or anything. His voice just isn't as powerful live as on record.

    hmmm

The only song I've heard from the new album is the one that sounds like a 2002 Busted song with bigger production.

    Back From The Dead Prestigious

Cigarettes After Sex has a cool sound but I feel like I gotta act like the guy is singing gibberish like a Sim or Jonsi from Sigur Rós to enjoy it because the lyrics are just cringe, incel shit. Like others pointed this out to me in the past and now it’s all I can think about it.

one of the best songs of the year. more bands need to sound like 2002 Busted.

The best song on the new The 1975 album is The Birthday Party though

Idk Busted except the “Year 3000” song, but “Me & You Together Song” sounds like The Starting Line to me

I feel like The 1975 are a much better "vibe" band than a "song" or "album" band.
