By the by i like both but get why they aren’t for everyone

yeah, like i said, phoebe's record is good music. i just didn't walk away from my time with it with an understanding of why she's the big buzz of the season is all.

 

Yeah I think there's a good difference between talking about music you like in a genre, and saying how you can't get into one artist but can get into the other

versus the actual pitting of the 2 artists against each other as if you can only like one

The former is what happened here and the latter is what we see most of the time on the internet when it comes to minority artists

 

That’s all good, you weren’t the one that brought it up. Like casey said it just seems like a lot of times when one or the other is discussed people have to declare how much more they like one over the other and it seems to boil down mostly to their gender. Similarly I think it’s weird when Vince and Kendrick are randomly compared

I think my post may have come off as directed at someone in this particular thread and I didn’t mean for it to be that way.

 

gender comparisons are generally made just because voice is one of the easiest things to use to compare acts and since we're still in an age where voices are gendered it's an easy thing to draw to. i've tried my best to put artists of all genders in RIYLs and it's hard but something i'm working to, to see the whole picture as opposed to solely a voice and a person

they can't be that similar of albums if only one of them is good tbh!!!

 

Loved the Phoebe album, Julien album really bored me. Even similar sounding stuff is really different.

 

I think phoebes album is more like what I wanted juliens to be, bar hurt less

The Color Fred was great.

 

I thought I would enjoy Phoebe's album more just cause I do see people bring her up a lot with Julien and other acts I like. I def enjoyed it but it didn't have the same impact as Julien's for me. Which like... No other record released this year did so it's not a knock. Julien's record is prob one of my favorite of all time which I rarely say about new releases and i have basically listened to nothing else since it was released. Missed her when she came thru on tour tho which was disappointing.

 

Both of Julien’s albums are better than Phoebe’s album. Phoebe’s album was still top 3 for me.

 

Underrated post

 

Dunno how unpopular this opinion is here, but I think a lot of nu metal is unfairly written off as bad when there are some very decent/good bands within the genre.
