Diary is probably Sunny Day Real Estate’s worst album.

LP2 is my least favorite but I agree How It Feels to Be Something On is the best.

HIFTBSO is probably a top ten album for me

Love Pinegrove, love their music. Very special band

I also wish Evan didn’t lay the southern accent on quite so thick on Cardinal. But hey

Just because it's popping hard in this forum currently and I've actually seen them live once, Pianos Become the Teeth are so damn boring.

When did you see them? I saw them with Title Fight and Balance and Composure in 2012 (I think) and they put on a solid show.

Saw them with Gates and Loma Prieta. I mean, they weren't a bad live show, it just did nothing for me.

I’m kinda torn on what my fav SDRE album is, I’m really finally starting to get into LP2 and really need to pay more attention to Rising Tide, but How It Feels is what I’m leaning towards.

Diary is just, like... arguably the worst example of a front-loaded album I can think of. I think I tend to have a negative bias against front-loaded records for some reason

do you not like pianos screamo material either? or do you just know them from that era of the band?
feel like you'd like their earlier stuff if you hadn't listened to them otherwise

You know what, the only stuff I've listened to is their later stuff. So I may have jumped the gun on my statement. I tend to go for the heavy/screamy stuff. I'll have to give their older material a try.

that's what i figured, check out old pride and the long lost after, you'll prob like old pride most.

i know your taste well enough by now to know where this whole thing was going, haha

Alex G was a joke. Left his set at High & Low fest cause it was so incredibly boring. I never mentioned that to anyone, but I had some family and friends at the San Francisco Brand New show and I asked them how it was and they said it was great but that, "the opening act was terrible." I didn't realize until I looked it up later that it was Alex G. I felt so validated.

Keep in mind, I haven't listened to the albums. I'm only rating the live performance.

@cwhit I might as well just tag you since you're going to see this anyways.

Dude that set was sooooo bad. I was there waiting for Now, Now and caught the final 20 of that set (which I was expecting to be really good from the buzz surrounding his music) but it was boring and and felt kinda aimless

Hell ya. I dunno man. I dig some indie/lofi music, but this just felt bad. Nothing about it seemed special to me

    lol

he’s honestly hit or miss live because he really does just fuck around a ton but the performance I saw this year was easily the best I’ve seen of him and a top 10 set this year. The Bowery ballroom recorded set is so good I had to rip it from YouTube and I listen to it all the time.

The album is also pretty much assured in my top three, way above brand new too

I’m also going to say that Brand New brought them out as an opener for a reason, they wouldn’t have played three shows with a band they think isn’t good

but they also backed shone so hey who knows

Well isn’t Shone half of Brand New? Doesn’t seem like there’s much of an option there haha
