her last record sold like 280k in 2012, but selling another extra 100k? i'm shocked.
katy perry sold 180k. does this make pink the biggest non taylor, non adele female pop star? who else could sell that much?

i'm truly shocked, like, i knew she was like, a big pop star obviously but i thought it was like second tier

I think this is part of it

also she hasn't released an album in 5 years and What About Us is huge as it should be her best song in years

No I'm right there with you, and I mean at least speaking by numbers, yea I guess it does. I really can't think of any other woman moving those numbers. What did like Ed Sheeran even do?
I mean yes that helps, but that's pretty much the norm now. Katy did it for her tour, and still moved only 180k or whatever. So even if this is responsible for Pink in part, then there's still a significant amount of people buying/streaming in addition, or a shit ton of people are going to see Pink, which is still impressive.

sheeran did more than this, i think like 466k? i just looked it up an hour ago. kendrick did more, drake would do more, JT would probably do more when he puts something out again...but yeah, out of women, seems like pink is top 3 and that's stunning to me, since she's rarely in the public sphere

Honestly not being in public sphere probably helps. People don't have her constantly shoved down their throats, so they don't ever get annoyed with her. She doesn't really pull stunts either. That stuff wears on people after a while. I imagine a lot of these sales are maybe people with kids in their 30s who know Pink is appropriate for their kids but enjoyable for them. I don't know but she's obviously doing something right.

I straight up never hear about Pink so this is surprising as hell. I feel like no one ever mentions her as a favorite

The Final Cut is great. Not prime Floyd great, but still great. The Fletcher Memorial Home is a great song.

I thought it was interesting that at one of those awards shows that happened this year she performed “So What” which is a pretty old song

Pink is boring, she's like a Walmart popstar. She's the I need to speak to your manager of music. She's not like the other girls the person.

So many other ways to say you don't like her music.

Her music is just boring but not like anything to make me feel strongly at all, but her persona feels like an entirely manufactured "real person" and that has always really bugged me. She's like a mass produced faux edgy rebellious image that only rebels in concept but is indistinguishable from the art its trying to rebel against. She's like a popstar for people who like pop music but wants to think that they don't, to create an image that they're better than some idea of a person.

In a lot of ways she is similar to the modern Eminem, who does traditional modern pop songs for people who want to listen to those songs, but also want to think they're above that kind of music. Eminem has become a Walmart pop star, a fake rebellious image transplanted to an easily consumable product, the I-don't-like-rap-music-except personified. The idea that I'm different and somehow better than someone for liking this thing, thought simultaneously by millions.

I dunno that's the vibe I get, it bugs me.

When I was a kid my dad told me he thought Pink was cool so I bought him her CD for father's day. Turns out he just thought she seemed like a cool person and didn't actually like her music and everyone laughed at my gift. I've hated picking out gifts ever since so Pink has indirectly caused my gift-giving anxiety. Thanks a lot, Pink!!

Sorry but Blink-182 is just a really boring and uninteresting band to me. Nothing about their output has ever really stuck out

I seriously love all the Larry David avatars lately lol, it’s amazing

Edit: also, I too have never clicked with Blink

    No Fun. Not Ever.

Only reason I care about Blink is because Matt Skiba's getting a sick payday and Tom is going 1000% batshit alien and I love it.

I don't think I could ever do a meet and greet. It's silly but I think it'd be awkward for me to have the artist know I'm kinda obsessed with them? Espesh the expensive greets. Like I don't want them to know I paid like $500 to meet them for five minutes. Fans always seem happy and pleased afterwards so I'm sure the experience is positive, but it seems like there'd be such a power imbalance. Like versus meeting them organically and having a convo where they may see you as just an average person to talk to and not a super fan where they might be wary. But then I guess aside from a meet and greet it's hard to meet a fave. Basically I spend a lot of time wondering what I'd do if I met xtina or Harry styles lol. So I guess my unpopular opinion is when it comes down to it I don't think I'd wanna meet a fave because they'd prob think I was a weirdo or I'd be super uncomfortable

Yeah I'd never go to a meet and greet. Even when I've bumped into people while waiting for shows and things like that I never actually want to speak to anyone or get a picture or anything, I'm too awkward for that. I'm fine just watching the show.
