Honestly I wish I woulda started on ableton tho. Seems really interesting and unique compared to other DAWs. It's pretty pricey for the full version though

I try to work with whatever budget people are workin with so I don't charge ridiculous prices or shit basically whatever works for you works for me as long as it's more than nothing

I should be able to cover just about any asking price, I've already paid for all my tracking so that's taken care of, so mixing costs should be doable when the time comes

Now I just have to actually track everything

Also I need to write everything that'd probably help

Interlude is basically a guarantee, I need that one. Still deciding on a few others and right now am leaning towards Do You Remember and Hands To The Sky as well but for sure Interlude because it's already written in my head and I just have to put it down

Man I feel like I was so young and inexperienced when I made that beat but I still love it, I remember how the sample fell into place almost by accident but it was perfect

It's the only time I've ever written lyrics on the spot, it was like as soon as you sent me the beat and I heard it I was like "I know exactly what this will be"

Especially since as you've heard my production skills have taken quite a few leaps forward in the last three years.

I'm excited too for sure. I think I needed some time to just figure out why I was making music, I quit enjoying it for a while but I was just telling Laura the other day that I'm ready to jump back into it and just have fun with it, make stuff because it's fun and not because I want any kind of career. Your stuff definitely has taken leaps forward and it's awesome to watch. I'm wanting to get more into production myself but I've definitely got ways to go haha, but once I get to the point of starting (probably after this release) I know I'll have a lot to learn from you.

Yeah dude I'm excited to hear what you're sounding like on the mic these days especially with less pressure on you because that's definitely gonna make it easier and more natural. Seriously if you ever wanna learn from me hit me up, I'll gladly skype you some time and make a beat from scratch start to finish so you can get the idea of how I work. I used to watch YouTube videos of people making beats from scratch to learn different techniques and work flows and styles and eventually combining everything I learned into my own way of working and doing things. Watching other people do stuff is a great way to learn this shit

That would definitely be awesome. Making from scratch is so hard for me haha, I have to like envision whatever I'm going to make before I make it but I want to be able to write from scratch so badly. It's weird because I'm only that way with production on a computer. When it comes to writing lyrics or composing I can do it from scratch but I can't do it at all while producing hahaha.

See I just sit down with a blank slate and usually come up with a 4 or 8 bar drum loop at whatever bpm feels comfortable and then go from there, trying out different synth sounds as I come up with a melody or chord progression while I'm going through different sounds. I feel working like this makes my tracks more cohesive like every synth every drum sample sounds like it belongs with the others nothing really sticks out. But there's a million ways to do everything, people may think the way I work is dumb and they prefer having their sounds already picked out before they start writing, or some people may start with melody before drums. Sometimes even ill do something differently but for the most part I start with at least a basic drum loop I can spice up later. Just helps to know what kind of groove and rhythm my track is gonna have before I come up with overall sound of the production and melody.

I got so many little tips and tricks like this to share with you (or anyone interested really) I can't wait to teach you all I know. I've only really mentored one other person, my best friend Mitch aka Clark woods is his recording name, I taught him everything he knows and he makes me proud because sometimes I think his beats are better than mine (he just can't mix at all which is where I come in hehe). Anyway check his stuff out too Clark Woods

I feel like Thriller is borderline a short film. I just remember watching whatever that weird ass movie they made (Moonwalker) back in the day with the smooth criminal music video and it was pretty cool. I guess if Thriller is than the whole segment of the movie for Smooth Criminal is as well
