I liked this song when I was a kid, and I dig it as an adult.

Close my account, Chorus. I don't even care anymore!

I don't like The 1975 because their singer looks like a tool and their music is boring

I don't think artists that have a whole bunch of co-writers can ever match the artistry of someone that writes their own music.
Ex: Beyoncé can never be better than Bruce or Dylan.

    Sorry. Haha

Pitchfork loves them but they always like the weird shit

Do you draw an arbitrary line in terms of how much an artist contributes to their music in order to distinguish their "artistry"?

I was kind of bummed when I found out Jim Croce didn't write I Got A Name.

    Maybe.
I am aware how ridiculous and impossible to measure that is. It just is kind of disappointing to find out that someone didn't write their own songs. It feels less genuine.

By your reasoning, then, if I were to pick up a guitar, write my own lyrics and chord progressions and record it on my phone without the help of anyone else, my work is more "genuine" than that of someone who has a co-writer?

Allow me to revise: I feel disappointed when artists don't write their own music. It feels less genuine to me.

I think there's a difference between a co-writer and someone who wrote the song and handed it to the artist to perform.

I'm at the point where neither really matter to me, if the music affects me then it affects me. The semantics by which the music is created isn't all that important

I agree. I know my first post was not worded how I wanted it to be. Obviously Beyoncé is a great artist.
I'll stick with my revision haha

I'll also add that I still fucking love I Got A Name. However, that thought still lingers in the back of my mind.

If you write and produce your own music and you suck, then you suck.

I don't think this is the same definition of "unpopular" as implied by the thread title but:

Had Osker not broken up after Idle Will Kill, their trajectory would have looked a lot like Brand New

Some off the top of my head:

The Glass Passenger is my favorite Jack's Mannequin album.

Thought Metro Stations album was really good (at the time).

Cobra Starship was underrated. (Not including Night Shades)

Enjoy Brand New, but don't get the hype. Same for The 1975. Both great, don't get me wrong.

    I don't like Beyonce.

I think every Say Anything album is good except for the newest one (not liking that one is popular though).

Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens are both good bands.

Hop Along's first album was better than their second.

Juturna is Circa Survive's worst album.

And, Owl City is an incredibly talented musician, and even more so producer.
