They just released a new album not too long ago, of course people still listen to them. One of the few bands from the 2000's still putting out good stuff IMO. So many bands I grew up with had rise and falls and aren't consistent.

Metal/heavier music just isn't a lot of people on this sites thing, that's why there are 8 pages of Fallout Boy posts and people ask if Killswitch is still a thing lol

Posting that RATM cover got me to thinking about them:

-de la Rocha is definitely an underrated lyricist
-Tom Morello is an absurdly overrated guitarist. I feel like they could have been a much more musically dynamic group if they had someone else on guitar. They absolutely nailed a certain kind of sound, but the lack of diversity really hurts when assessing them in retrospect

Give me Ricky Sampson over Tom Morello any day. Actually, here's an unpopular one, give me Randall over Morello.

people on this site like metal just fine. i wouldn't take people not liking killswitch as something conclusive regarding an entire genre lol.

I'd reeeeeally recommend their old stuff, like the first two or three records. It's a lot more like Built to Spill / the Dismemberment Plan and his voice isn't as breathy and grating yet. Lyrics are way better, too.

Maybe, I don't see it on here really. It's all good though, I love non metal too so I can still join in the chats :-)

Good point, I think he's great at what he does but that kind of playing kind of pigeon held them into playing the same type of songs over and over. You know a Rage song as soon as you hear the guitar.

I mean he's gifted and influential in the way he used his effects. But as a player he's just fine

Metal/heavy music is probably what I listen to the most. You wouldn't catch me dead listening to kill switch

How would someone else on guitar have made rage better? Morello wrote good, sturdy, heavy riffs. Sure he wanked like it was a turntable sometimes but it was fresh at the time. Another guitarist wouldn't have fit.

what about Rage suggested they could have been musically dynamic? where's that argument

Going off the Morello comment: I think it's crazy that people think a guitarist is only as good as what they play in their band. Like who's to say Morello isn't a phenomenal guitarist that just played what worked for RATM or other projects, and doesn't bother getting more technical because it doesn't sound as good? There are a lot of people out there who are career musicians who I'm sure are more "technical" than the music they play shows them being.

I enjoy Killswitch from time to time.

Come to think of it, back on the topic of covers, their Holy Diver cover is lovely, as much as that will send the trve fuckfaces into a frenzy, lol.

    Leave the Hall, you False

jk Killswitch is one of the two bands that got me into harder music. "The End of Heartache" was an epiphany to my 16 year old ears.

I wouldn't say better, but maybe take them in a different direction in sound instead of writing the same style of songs. I don't think that's solely the guitar players fault though.

I'm certainly not going to make a thread for them and I guess they are unpopular enough for here, but during an iTunes shuffle the band Cold came on and it got me to revisit their albums last night. They had some pretty good songs, dudes voice is what carried the band.

Our Lady Peace's first four albums are fantastic. Gravity is when they started to get kinda poppy.
