That phrase has got to be older than Dylan, surely?

 

I still don't really understand the phrase tbh. Who wants to keep cake? Literally the only thing cake is good for is eating.

the other hardcore cliche was that every single band had a breakdown that started with "OPEN YOUR EYES"

 

Cliches in and of themselves don't bother me. It all comes down to how you use it
