its all love though baby. I have a burning dislike for most modern pop production and song structure and i might sound harsh when im talking about how i feel about Katy Perry or whoever, but I have nothing but respect for people here who enjoy it. Just, in my personal worldview and values, i might say "Modest Mouse is ruined by horrible vocals and live performance" and that doesn't at all mean I think you look at music wrong if you love Modest Mouse's singing style or had a blast at one of their concerts.

We gotta look at it like, no one is saying anything universal or factual, if they think they are then they are the fool. A lot of people like to make witty, biting "roasts" of artists or albums they don't like and rant about the reasons that artist drives them insane. That doesnt mean they're condescending you if you like the record, or trying to be didactic and change your mind, that's just the way they are coloring and emphasizing their personal reaction to that music.

 

Modest Mouse is really bad live haha. Thanks for reminding me.

 

They were great when I saw them, but that was also like a year an a half ago.

 

hey, i am genuinely glad that you come out of this thread happy. but i think it's valid nonetheless to complain and i think it sucks for the users who dont feel the same way that they ultimately feel run out of the thread

 

I hate when there's tension cause then I get an overwhelming desire to break it with a joke but I can never think of a joke and then I feel like I've failed. As I typed this I realized I'm Chandler in the ski episode where he gets stressed from the tension of Ross and Rachel's breakup lol

edit Also I say this whenever Modest Mouse is brought up but they are dead to me since they came on really late cause I have a pet peeve about respecting people's time. ngl, when I saw the Used they came out right on the dot, like literally right after the minute changed, and I was way too impressed by it haha

 

i just think its also kind of unfair to chastise people for showing some outward personality in this thread instead of meekly suggesting and then backing off of every opinion they post in here. sounding confident in one opinion seems to get mistaken for, not accepting the opinions of others. its fine though, just dont think its realistic to have a thread for arguing about music and expect no one's tone to ever change based on their emotional response to the music

gotta be some kind of balance between respecting others but also feeling like you dont have to hold back your natural response if you disagree

 

Pitbull is awesome. What started as a purely sarcastic fandom of the guy, I truly think he's the fucking man now.

 

i was going back and finding posts that were shitty but i'm not really looking to put individuals on blast here or go rooting through history. but some folks def go beyond "showing outward personality," i ofc have no problem with that, but we have plenty of examples of people going way beyond that and just being not enjoyable to be around

I don't mean to be rude, but guys, come on. This needn't be such a big production. All people are trying to say is that we get a little overzealous with our opinions in here and sometimes the joking-harsh tone gets grating on people, and that we should reel it back a little. I'm not mad at anyone here, I'm just trying to put that in perspective. Can we all step back and breathe for a moment? Please? :(

 

I know as much as anyone what it's like to feel unwelcome or run out of a thread due to hostile or antagonistic posts. There is a clear difference between joking around about tastes and making posts like that. I don't think it's unreasonable to just ask that we all keep an eye on that in order to keep the community feeling open and welcoming. I get it, an "unpopular music opinions" thread is bound to bring up some opposing viewpoints, but there's no reason that discussion can't happen without the personal attacks. We can be better than that.

As a moderator, I try to take care of anything I see that is inappropriate or aggressive, but might I also recommend using the "block" function to ignore users that are consistently antagonistic. Trust me; it works.

 

I love that the guy who started off rapping about big asses is basically a motivational speaker now

 

Really? Not a super fan but I saw them on the BN tour and they were way better than BN

 

Really? Weird. I saw them at Shaky Knees and it was like they were bored and had somewhere better to be.

 

Brand new is also very hit or miss live

 

Brand New live did nothing for me, left halfway through their set.
