I put some albums on shuffle if I have a short period to listen to music and the album has no underlying narrative. That's really not a big deal.

But throwing on a concept record or something and choosing shuffle is weird

It depends on the concept record for me. But even then it's not so much "on shuffle" as it is me just listening to a couple songs (like Illinoise haha). I'll throw on "Wake" and "Epilogue" once a week typically.

    Yeah that's fair.

Like the other day I had a 20 min drive to work, so I put Proper by IIOI on shuffle. While there are some underlying themes, it's mostly a collection of loosely collected songs. Doing that is normal I think

    You lost me at IIOi

Well that aside throwing on an album that functions less as a narrative and more as a collection of songs is not strange

I've never actually heard of people doing that. I just start an album from track 1 and if I don't finish it I don't finish. I make playlists of specific themes for shuffling

I also go thru my library and listen to random songs I wanna hear at that moment

Well that's just completely negative. Even if we pretend they are a greatest hits band, that'd still be multiple albums of songs lol

Even if we go with singles that have charted high: Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Sad But True, The Unforgiven, Fuel, Until It Sleeps, Hero of the Day, Memory Remains, One, Nothing Else Matters, Where Ever I May Roam... I'm sure I'm missing some. What a stacked discography they have.

It's never too late! You're still alive!

I've always been passionate about start-to-finish album format

it's not that i don't ever listen to one-off songs but it's quite uncommon. Regardless whether its spotify and i have the option or if its vinyl and I don't, the thematic changes and transitions and flow of a record are actually super important to me. Hence why I disagree so strongly with CarpetElf because I think Sufjan did a GREAT fucking job at that on Illinoise. Literally the only track I don't like on the entire record is the last one, so I just end it after "the tallest man, the broadest shoulders". Always a thrilling and totally satisfying 70 minutes dont even care that the record is that long.

  24. I'd post my opinions on shuffling but they all pretty much exactly mirror @stillbrazy

Except I really don't care about how others consume their music. Though when I was a kid I made a friendship really weird because a friend and I were listening to a new album for the first time and he tried to skip a song and I got pissed
