Wife and I had a night off with a babysitter. Our nine year anniversary and I convinced her to see this after Ruth’s Cris. Very up my alley film and I had no idea there was a series on YouTube predating it. Someone post the highlights please. Just the vibe and feeling this gave me was so specific and niche yet definitely left me wanting more. The slow bite from the big boy was creepy and the part where Mary’s back room popped in as the apartment complex ruled. Thinking of having to climb up weird stairs over a 15 story drop scares the shit out of me. Definitely lost me at times. Overall my whole experience was ruined because for the first time in a very long time(probably 17-18 years) WE HAD A GROUP OF KIDS COME IN FROM ANOTHER FILM AND WOULDNT SHUT UP! I actually said something and I think another dude went to tell someone then they left. Absolutely ruined the experience and bummed me out.
See I missed a lot of this when the chuckleheads came in soon after he chocked Mary out and was explaining stuff.
the way the red suited copy freaks out and tries to run away when Pirate Clark is approaching makes it really clear they have feelings and independent thought imo also for anyone who hasn't seen the yt stuff take the time to watch this one, trust me
Thought this was neat, I had to do a quick dive into the lure cause some of the stuff I was confused about. Would love to know where this kids budget comes from and how big these sets are.
when A24 inevitably gives this a physical release (there's no way they don't at this point), i'd love to see a featurette on the set construction/VFX, and try to discern which parts of the set were real and which weren't
Saw it. Holy shit, that was unsettling and fucked up, especially when Clark started eating people. And then him trying to comfort his pirate self only to be eaten in return. I can't decide if there are layers of meaning to this or if it's just fucking mental.
The more I think about this film, the more affected I feel by it. Clark's inability to change his life for the better, his refusal to change and his admission that he feels more at home in a world of fake people where he doesn't have to grow or hold himself accountable or have any real responsibility. It's just a very bleak conclusion.
interesting factoid that the first footage in the film takes place at beginning of July 1990 and this footage is dated early May 1990.
I think that's still up in the air. If that's supposed to be his ex, and I think it is, then her reaction to Pirate Clark (and Clark Clark) could be considered to be the Backrooms imitating her behavior. It calls into question just how bad their relationship was, since all we have to go on is Clark's word.
