just letting you know there's actually 25, that official playlist is missing some of the unlisted ones for whatever reason. here's a playlist someone made with the full series https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLykkXRKFiweEGJI6EdUVgJZU-SubKvjTg
”the oldest view” is my favorite kane youtube vid there are tons and tons of other backrooms or analog horror youtube creators out there and a a couple of them are close or as good as kanes fyi more backrooms creators: andy r, evan royalty, ruster 3d seminal analog horror youtube series: gemini home entertainment, i feel fantastic, local58tv, monument mythos, mandela catalog, greylock, smile tapes, shaye st john
all of that stuff doesn't sound that appealing to me. that's not what i want from youtube i guess like i'm not interested in all, even after liking this movie, to watch any of his youtube stuff
whatever i guess im not trying to be snippy at all i just didnt really get the need of the comment carry on, maybe others are interested
Im so happy this is bringing out all of the great already existing analog horror: Gemini Home Entertainment, Walton Files, Mandala Catalogue, etc. And, my absolute favorite, Petscop. The "levels" Backrooms fandom are so annoying about this. If you were familiar with Kane's series, this is exactly what I would expect from a feature Backrooms film.
Thought that this was okay. The middle third was fantastic but the last third did not work for me at all. This felt like it was written by 3 or 4 people and then smooshed together. It did look fantastic and I’m definitely going to watch whatever he makes next.
This didn’t do as much for me as the YouTube series but it was still good and I'm happy to see it succeed.
I kinda liked that they saved almost the entire corporate conspiracy thread for a future movie or series.
Kane Parsons said on The Big Picture that basically all of his Backrooms content is of a big piece and for this, he wanted a standalone story with not much lore because basically, if people want lore, they can go back and watch the other videos.
I’m hoping they effectively treat the mainstream Backrooms universe as its own thing and we get movies and limited series that establish relevant details and connect to each other without requiring extra textual research and that the YouTube stuff remains as supporting lore/bonus content for people who are more in that world and community.
I saw another clip where he talks about how feeding into the fans’ obsession and expectations with lore kills universes/franchises, which I thought was a very mature, take, especially from someone who could easily benefit from doing fan service.
I haven’t seen a second of the YouTube stuff but I have trained my Reddit algo to feed me Backrooms threads so I have seen the fan theories about Mark Duplass secretly being Ivan Beck, the Captain Clark still life being the Bacteria before Clark entered the backrooms, etc, and arguments over the rules of what a still life is. I love that the movie just exists and shows us the world and lays out one plank of the rope bridge at a time and isn’t speed running lore.
hollywood should recruit more analog horror creators to make movies now. let the person that made five nights at freddy's vhs tapes series make a fnaf movie.
