My friend and I seeing this Saturday night, 9:30pm Watched the original short film last week and was creeped out, so very excited for this film, haha
maybe i can talk my wife into seeing this with me, i'm pretty excited for it. love the youtube series
this was good, maybe not something I'd watch again but I'm extremely interested to see what Parsons does in the future. Oldest View movie when
Just got out of a sold out 430 screening. I liked it but found it to be pretty confounding. Not really sure what to make of the narrative but the aesthetics and atmosphere definitely had my attention and will get me to watch whatever Kane does next.
Really liked this but kinda wish there was more to it? I really think this will click more for those who are familiar with the youtube series tbh. Really loved some of the wilder go for broke sequences especially when we got close to that Annihilation noise with the score
Need to think about it more but feel like it was missing… something? Visually/technically this is super impressive but the story is kind of hollow
It gives us a lot more then say, skinamarink, which gives you exactly nothing, but not enough to be super satisfying.
yeah feels like it could have gone to the next level with a better third act but the creature reveal just struck me as goofy, wasn't scared of it at all. last 20 minutes fell very flat compared to that earlier chase scene with Clark holding the camera, which was insane
I liked this a lot and I respect how much it holds back. I think it has a lot to say about loneliness and latching on to conspiratorial thought, literally going down the rabbit hole. And using a setting that is basically an AI hellscape. Felt very timely in that way. Loved the final shot. (I thought it was really sad). also the handheld and the dinner sequence are both unreal
Yeah, didn’t think this was a rich narrative text, but the vibes are so unsettling and the uncanny valley feeling in the production design and score, and Chiwetel’s performance, really sell this. A pretty impressive debut.
been watching the original youtube series and they're honestly a lot more unsettling and... dynamic? than this movie. performance example of why giving something a big budget doesn't always help creativity
this needed to be more like Skinamarink frankly. Story and script got very producer note-y in the last 45 minutes or so and frankly the vibe of the first half is going to land better with the people that want to go see this movie anyways. Parsons has a very strong and impressive directorial vision and they needed to let that carry it farther, I would have watched a 5 hour cut of Chiwetel just exploring
