re: Mute Math, what happened there is the original release was in 2006 on Teleprompt (essentially the band's own label) and then they signed to Warner Bros for a 2007 re-release of the same album. It's important to note that the two albums actually differ and I MUCH prefer the original version. Two great songs got removed, two songs got cut down by almost 2 minutes each (Break The Same, You Are Mine), a few other minor changes, and the addition of "Control" from their first EP. Overall it's a very prevalent example of a label taking the band's original intented piece of work and changing it drastically for wide release.

re: Gym Class Heroes, I unfortunately agree. I still can enjoy the band for the most part, but over the years it's certainly faded a lot.

I love this re-ranking series. Really enjoy your perspective going back and digging into how things have changed for you.

I’m happy for Dog Problems and I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child, but I expected Put Your Ghost to Rest to be re-ranked higher.

i still like PYGTR a fair amount, as reflected in my list, but it's a pretty uneven record. kind of a theme with kevin.

yeah i'm pretty sure it was a "hit," albeit a minor one. that, "crystal village" and "strange condition" all had moments.

Yeah, I guess it went number one Adult Alternative, but never really crossed over.

The Devil and God meant everything to me and would undoubtedly be at #1 on any year prior to the revelation. Now I don't return to it but felt like I needed to mention this because completely ignoring this album would be like ignoring a part of my life, it just wouldn't make sense. Moving on:

    1. The Format - Dog Problems
    2. mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister
    3. Set Your Goals - Mutiny!
    4. Moneen - The Red Tree
    5. The Early November - The Mother, the Mechanic and the Path
    6. Underoath - Define the Great Line
    7. Spitalfield - Better Than Knowing Where You Are
    8. My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
    9. Boys Like Girls - Boys Like Girls
    10. Manchester Orchestra - I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child
    11. Copeland - Eat. Sleep. Repeat.
    12. New Found Glory - Coming Home
    13. Thursday - A City by the Light Divided
    14. Hellogoodbye - Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!
    15. Saosin - Saosin
There were a few very successful albums from that year on which I love a few particular songs vs the album as a whole:
Sam's Town, Whatever People Say I Am, Continuum, The Sufferer and the Witness, Begin to Hope and Black Holes and Revelations

OK there might have been a nostalgia factor involved here! Also some of those songs have aged badly... But I still enjoy most of them if they come on shuffle at the right time.

2006 was the year I graduated high school and left for college so I have a lot of weird, nostalgic, bittersweet memories tied to many of these albums.

Spring/ Graduation time was all about TBS, AvA, and Thursday.

first semester of college was all about Senses Fail, NFG, My Chem, and BN.

the most interesting thing for me while looking to the album list is that the two albums I listen to the most today are The Hold Steady and MO, which were both bands I had not listened to until years later.

Surprised by how much on this one and the last one I've never listened to. Lots to check out.

Need to throw out some love for Wonderland by Forgive Durden that came out in 2006 though.

My two favorite albums from 2006 are marred by terrible people, Devil & God and Coming Home. Still don't know what to do with that tbh.
