I found a lot to love in this. It did a great job showing the split in Romy between the yearning to explore her desires and the fear and discomfort doing so brought her. Which often led to a lot of scenes feeling less sexy/raunchy and more deliberately awkward as she was constantly fighting her impulses, even after she'd decided to give in to them. The way they both struggled to properly nail down the dynamic felt less like a fantasy brought to life and closer to how things might play out in reality. Nicole Kidman was wonderful as she usually is and I found it very funny too.
Love erotic thrillers, really enjoyed Bodies Bodies Bodies, and Eyes Wide Shut is my favorite movie, but I REALLY wish this had something more substantial to say. Kind of did the bare minimum to be technically proficient and hold my interest, but none of it comes together to be as interesting or smart as it thinks it is.
Not sure how I felt about this. Mostly because I could not for the life of me figure out why she was attracted to the intern once he started talking. I think it has a lot to say and says quite a bit of it well, specifically that kink doesn’t have to coexist with an unhealthy relationship dynamic. I just couldn’t buy into her wanting to explore it with him outside of his physique. I think it’s a much more serious look at sexuality than a lot of people seem to realize. I doubt I’ll watch it again, but I’ll definitely be thinking about it for a minute
