Yup, just got back and enjoyed it around 50x more than I did the first time. Damn, it feels like this was the first time I saw it. What a fucking awesome movie
I see movies alone all the time. It's not like you're talking during them so there's really no difference. It is nice to have someone to discuss with immediately after though. But I'm cool with either way.
Convinced my girlfriend to see this with me because I had a gift card. I loved it, she hated it. She said, verbatim, "cheesy, bad acting, bad writing". I was actually angry.
She was definitely just salty that my gift card toting swagger threw the date night power balance my way for once, I saw her smirking throughout. But yeah I broke up with her and moved to a different country
In contrast, I wouldn't shut up about this movie since I saw it on opening night, finally convinced my girlfriend to see it, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Not to brag or anything hahaha
I don't get it; why is he named after that specific Sam ? I mean, Freaks/Geeks is awesome but what's the connection?
I'd say "Bellbottoms" is definitely my favorite, followed by "Hocus Pocus" and "Harlem Shuffle". I'd pay full price just to see the opening car chase again TBH.
i gotta sit on this one for a bit. i knew, with all the hype, there was no way this movie was going to live up to the expectations, it was impossible. It came close and it's definitely on the thumbs up part of the scale, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I grew a bit bored towards the end. I can only take so many chase scenes. A really solid 8/10 type movie for sure....at this point it's probably on the bottom of the Edgar Wright list unfortunately due to its lack of laughs, relatively lax character development, and a main character that I never really grew attached to. Obviously the soundtrack is top notch and I was curious in seeing where the movie was going the whole time. And it's definitely memorable which i find to be very important in movies.... although gotta say... I liked Drive more than this (impossible not to compare the two).
Can't say I disagree with any of this. I enjoyed it much more the second time, when I already knew it hadn't quite lived up to the hype but was still a very good and enjoyable movie. To me, with a few tweaks to some character development, this is a classic. Step One: Make the romance a more believable. I honestly think this could have been done with some sort of montage that shows that that went on more than two dates. I just don't really buy that Debora would jump onboard with Baby when all this crazy shit is going down. Step Two: Either give me some more earlier in the film that makes me believe Doc wouldn't be trying to kill Baby at the end or make him another big bad along with Buddy. Although, I'll admit, that has seemed to bother me more than anyone else who has seen it. I'd probably ditch the court montage at the end and just end it with Baby reading the postcard and fantasizing about getting out with Debora. Overall though, it's a very very good film and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
Would've preferred the final chase to be in car instead of on foot. Obviously the budget was limited, but I was hooked with the first getaway and wanted a grand finale. Besides that, I have no real problems with this movie.
I agree with your fixes. Spacey's character seemed to be all over the place in this movie and yes, I wasn't digging the romance other than the girl was 'a cute diner girl'. Could've been handled better. And i agree that the court scene was unnecessary. The movie bludgened us over the head a trillion times about how "he's a good guy" so it didn't feel necessary.
Already excited for this to be released so I can watch it over and over again. Don't feel something is an instant classic very often, but this is pretty much immediately my favorite in a long time.
