I manage a theatre and at our concessions we have beer and wine and we also have a restaurant with a full bar. I'd say that, on the whole, people are pretty classy about it. The only time it gets rough is for movies like Magic Mike or 50 Shades
I think it may have been AMC but I went to a theater chain to see There Will Be Blood and they had a whole separate wing for movies along the lines of indie/foreign/art house and its own concession stand serving Starbucks coffee, beer, and wine. I just remember seeing a guy coming in with a pint of beer getting ready for a noon showing of There Will Be Blood
Oh man. I've worked opening weekends for both 50 Shades movies and Magic Mikes, usually by myself. Just drowning in empty wine bottles and angry middle aged women.
LOL YES No joke, when Magic Mike XXL was playing I would hide until the theatre was completely empty before I would start cleaning it because I was getting lowkey sexually harassed at every drop. All these drunk wine moms yelling "take off your shirt!!!!" And stuff like that. It was awful. Another time I was changing out a beer keg and there were all these tubes I was messing with and the drunko at the counter was like, "so you lay down pipe often???" Or something to that effect. It's amazing what wine does lol.
I don't getting trashed during a movie either, but I like to enjoy a beer or two during the movie if it's available.
Tbh I haven't been to a theatre in the Bay Area that doesn't serve alcohol. Seems to be the norm now.
For me it depends on the movies. When I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 I got pretty toasty. And I always get a whiskey milkshake if I go to the Alamo Drafthouse, it's tradition.
yeah pretty much every theater around here serves alcohol. It's pretty rare that I order more than one drink and just nurse it for most of the movie. The exception being The Force Awakens, but only because I got there pretty early. Haven't seen anyone trashed at a movie either. I like hope that people understand that there's a time and place, and that opening weekend isn't either forgetting shitty haha.
That's how I feel about concerts. Like I won't judge if you want a beer or two but who the hell buys expensive concert tickets to get black out drunk or leave during multiple songs to get more drinks?
I mean, I won't judge anyone who does partake for movies. Well, as long as it doesn't cause them to make a scene and disturb the movie. Otherwise I couldn't care less if people drink. Just not my thing.
I'm at work right now and just saw a woman hold the popcorn bag with both hands and bury her face into the popcorn like a chicken would to feed.
We've got quite a few theaters around here that serve alcohol and food. Actually getting an Alamo Draft House put in like two miles from me in a few months so I'm pumped about that too. I mean, it's not like just because there is beer available you're supposed to get hammered or people will be screaming in the theater or something lol. It's just nice to sip throughout every now and then.
One near me does it, but I've never partaken. I have also never had it be an issue during the movie yet.
I don't drink as much as other people, but alcohol during a movie seems weird. When I do drink, it is socially, like going out after work with people. If I am already being entertained by the movie, why is alcohol necessary? I end up feeling the same way during sports, which is usually a minority opinion.
When we first introduced alcohol to my theatre guests got a little carried away. One night, I was getting ready to close and I get a report that someone had yakked all over the floor outside a screen. I go there to clean it up and the very moment I finish cleaning it up all I hear is, "STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP". This dude comes barreling down the hallway and pukes all over where I had just cleaned up haha. Dude was blitzed.
