Edgar Wright is also on the Canon talking about the Driver with Amy Nicholson. The CBB with Hamm and Wright was great and I hope a lot of people listen to it and get introduced to JW Stillwater.
Okay, this was awesome. There were a few character decisions that just kind of felt like "okay, this is happening reasoning be damned" but other than that it was great. Will watch again.
Yeah this lived up to my expectations and more, it was weird being there for the second night and only having 20 or so in a screen of about 80 seats. Found the film even funnier than I thought it would be but no one else apart from my girlfriend was laughing, that was even weirder. Just wish my cinema was a little bit louder because it's definitely a film that needs to be played loud.
There was a couple 'dreamy' parts with Debrah (DebOrah?) that strongly resembled the dreamy Ramona parts of Scott Pilgrim.
Haha. That's why I said "first" - I will definitely see both ASAP, but will probably only have time for one this weekend. I'm leaning towards The Big Sick because I feel like it's the "underdog" of the two and deserves the first weekend numbers, but it's playing at less theaters so it may be tougher to find a showing at the right time.
Another fun fact: the man behind the opening song is in the movie: " And you’ve got a cameo by Jon Spencer in the movie, presumably as a way of thanking him? Yeah, but I don’t want to divulge exactly what he does, because it gives away the ending of the movie. I will say that he’s in the last five minutes of the movie, so he essentially bookends it. He’s at the start — the first voice you hear on the soundtrack—and he’s one of the last voices you hear in the movie. " He's probably the prison guard who hands him the letter and says "you've got a letter, kid."
I hear ya out the last bit, my theater did the same thing and I was just sitting there hoping it would be louder.
Loved this movie, Edgar is without a doubt one of the best storytellers in Hollywood and this movie proved it. Really loved the soundtrack, I listened to it leaving the theater and all I could do was speed.
This movie is bananas in the best way, I can't wait to see it like 5 more times to catch everything. Plus it finally made me kind of not hate Ansel Elgort so that's a plus
The level of filmmaking on display here is unrivaled. Edgar Wright conducted a symphony of sound and visuals like only he could. I loved this movie.
Really excited to see this. I'm taking my dad next week since he loves action movies and he seems pumped, he keeps sending me links about how good the movie is haha
I feel comfortable saying this is Edgar's weakest movie and still one of the best I've seen this year. What a fucking blast.
