Yea, he was great. I do have some 'complaints' but they are more just - some gut reactions of what I thought the movie was going to be vs. what it is. I think I'll get over these feelings on repeat viewings: Most of the death and gore in the 2nd half felt over-the-top and borderline forced because "oh it's the 3rd act of a crime movie so everyone needs to die" ; the gore (jamie foxx's death) felt like a tonal mis-match. Darling going out in that shootout felt more like suicide and just completely illogical on her part. I also probably would have just cut the movie as they drive towards the bridge at the end. I understand the prison situation demonstrating consequences, but it felt like too much crammed into the last few minutes. One of those 'too many endings' situations'.
Seriously my favorite of the year so far. I'm gonna go again tonight I think. Try and catch all the stuff I missed.
Re: Bats' death- it didn't feel like a mismatch or unearned to me. Baby clearly had an aversion to violence/killing during the first two acts. I think Bats trying to pull his gun on Debora the night before and him killing the security guard right in front of him at the heist finally made him break. Darling facing off with the police did feel highly illogical though. I guess that's my one complaint haha
So is the film quite violent? I was going to try to convince my wife to come but she isn't keen on violence and blood etc. (Although she liked Kingsman so you never can quite predict it with her...!)
I was sad that Jon Hamm ended up being the main antagonist in the end. I liked his character a lot, and he and his wife seemed to genuinely like Baby. But damn was he fun to watch all crazied out
I actually really liked that twist, especially after what Darling said to Bats about Buddy seeing red. I said it earlier in here, but I was really expecting Doc to be the true villain in the final act. It was so awesome to see him take Baby's side and sacrifice himself.
I think she didn't mind Kingsman as it was over the top and the camera swung around a lot. If it's more gritty and realistic I might struggle to convince her. Thanks for the insight!
This is the only thread here that I have taken to using the scroll bar to navigate, in fear of hovering over some gray. 7:30 can't come soon enough.
My wife is pretty picky about R rated films, and she really liked this. Wasn't too violent for her at all and she isn't a fan of violence in movies at all.
Did not even realize this was rated R. Honestly thought it was PG-13. I would love to see this beat out Despicable Me 3, but it definitely won't with an R rating.
i might be misinterpreting Edgar's intention, but i loved the bit outside the diner where the woman screams " he shot someone" and the camera pans back showing Baby had disappeared and a police officer comes into frame
