Just came in to post the 20th anniversary album was out but @iCarly Rae Jepsen beat me too it! Awesome to see breakaway made it on there. I’m still surprised she left off the original title track and a few others but I’m stoked to listen to this with Dolby Atmos.
Tried to pair the songs on Let Go with songs/artists they influenced. A fun exercise that really shows how broad the influence of this album has proven to be.
Wow it sounds so good with Dolby Atmos, I was actually taken aback on first listen. Why and Breakaway in particular sound incredible in higher quality from the b-side collection. Glad we finally have studio versions of some of the b-sides.
So the original album is entirely remixed, which I was surprised to find out. I wonder why they didn't even mention that?
I’m also surprised as well. Have to say I’m really liking the new remix though. I’d say this will be my go to version of Let Go.
Can you imagine if she’d have kept Breakaway on Let Go? It probably would have become a staple at her live shows for sure.
You know, I hate to admit it because I absolutely loved the album, but..... was this kinda a flop for avril? Love Sux I mean. Maybe it's hard to gauge what's a flop these days and maybe my expectations of what Avril can accomplish in 2022 is too high, but I feel like the team probably expected a bit more traction from this "Avril pop punk comeback" no? I don't really hear any of the singles on the radio *alt radio or pop radio. The videos (which were really poor btw) didn't get a ton of traction. Theres no real big tour in the states from the album (other than some SUPPORT for mgk) . Like the album is a total banger and her live performances on all the talk shows are stellar. Idk. Or am I wrong and am just not seeing it?
Yeah my gut reaction is that it didn't do as well as planned. Probably didn't help by the fact that all of the EU tour was cancelled again.
Yeah, I'm kind of at a loss for how they fumbled this. Seemed like a clear homerun after the year Olivia Rodrigo had in 2021 from largely resurrecting the early Avril sound. I'd say a combination of not enough promo and winter being the wrong time to release an album that sounds like this. I've personally been getting a second wind with it since the weather warmed up, and it feels a lot more fitting to be blasting this album now than it did in feels-like-negative-five weather in February.
I feel like seasonally-optimized release dates are not something labels pay enough attention to. Happy to be a consultant in this important area.
The wisest next move would be a deluxe version released over the next month or so to give the album some new life.
I feel this whole "new wave of pop-punk"* thing is very much a thing that works for the big names and not for others. Much like when 5SOS were huge and there was hope they could pull some of the smaller bands up in their wake and it just... didn't happen. *whichever one we're up to now Okay obviously it's weird referring to Avril as not a big name but I think you get what I mean, right? You have people like Willow Smith, blackbear and... sigh... MGK charting in the Hot 100 and then you have Mod Sun, Avril and the rest of the Travis Barker Extended Universe doing decently-but-not-amazing numbers.
I think Avril is definitely a big name in that she still has name recognition and could have pulled in older listeners, like Simple Plan has done occasionally in the last 12 years or so. That makes me think that label did a bad job.
yup. her tour starts in 10 days. it'd be smart to release a deluxe before July, when the tour goes into full gear.
