expected a Feldmann-sounding pop punk record, got it -- but I do enjoy this a hell of a lot more than I expected, given the inevitable Feldmann-ness
I’m loving this. On first listen, I’d say the Cannonball chorus sounds the most like a Blink outtake. Mark: Ticking time bomb, I come on strong I'll come in hot Skiba distorted scream: Like a cannonball, like a cannonball Mark: Take your best shot, give me all that you've got I'll come in hot Skiba: like a cannonball, like a cannonball Like a cannonball
I was actually thinking of another female voice I seem to hear during the Déjà Vu bridge, like there could be a vocal interplay between Avril and an uncredited singer. One of the lines has a filter on it, but it doesn't sound like Avril to me. Or maybe it's all her? It's been confusing me ever since.
I wasn’t expecting anything, but I really enjoy this, it’s A LOT better than most of the others “mainstream” pop punk revival stuff I have heard recently
No joke, she said that part of the song right when I was reading "sorry" so it totally threw me off for a second just now.
It’s funny that I come at this from a bit of a different angle than most of this site, as someone with heavy teenage nostalgia for Avril but not for most pop punk. Like, I remember stumbling on the “Complicated” music video the way some people talk about finding Blink. The Best Damn Thing came out my senior year of high school. From that particular angle, this scratches a certain itch that feels good to be scratched right now. I think the sweet spot for modern Avril for me would have a little self-titled mixed in with this sound, but it’s great to hear her on an album with this type of energy again. Is it the best thing I’m gonna hear this year? Of course not, but it’s her overall best thing since The Best Damn Thing, and it’s the right type of thing for me at the moment.
Is anyone else having quality issues on Apple Music? I’m on 3rd gen AirPods but volume is going up and down. Quality goes in and out…no way it’s production.
The only things that keeps me from enjoying, besides the MGK feature, is the production. It's so compressed and metallic that it's grating to my ears. And I used to enjoy Feldmann production back in the day.
