Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Infinity war is the movie that made moviepass go back to no repeats.

The recent report about MP having serious cash flow concerns. Pretty sure a shit ton of people used MoviePass to help this movie earn $650 million in 2.5 days.

  4. Ah ok - I haven’t done movie pass yet

So technically IW didn't kill it. An increase of people abusing MP did.

Abusing? I’m just saying this movie didn’t need MP to attract the masses, but it certainly helped push this into record-setting numbers. MP announced the “one movie one time” rule in antipication of Infinity War.

What? How did anyone abuse it?

My understanding was that MP announced the “one movie one time” rule after the first two days of IW and that it was due to multiple people using it more than once a day. That’s why I said it would have been people abusing it.

    People apparently:

Used the card to buy concessions
Used the card to buy and sell tickets for movies they weren’t attending
    And some other shit

A good example of this: I had never seen The Wire before and didn’t think I would (for no real reason - just didn’t have the desire). I listened to Jonathon Abrams on The Watch and Lowe Post podcasts in which they spoiled pretty much the entire show. After that, I decided to start watching.

I’m sure my experience would be different if I hadn’t known about some of the plot points, but the show is incredible and has me hooked. I’m on season 3, know a lot of what will happen, and I’m still wildly excited every time I start an episode because of the quality of the show.

  11. Yep. People should definitely watch The Wire.

I didn't understand the hype for The Wire until I watched the whole series over a week. Perfect television.

Props to it, but for some reason I just feel like TFA was completely inescapable, like I haven’t seen Thanos toothbrushes on sale this week lol.

i think my only criticism (if you can even call it that) is that the scene/sequence with peter dinklage just felt rushed and i didn't really take his character seriously at all, not sure if you were meant to, but it just seemed like a tyrion lanister cameo more than anything.
other than that, loved it, and i honestly didn't think it felt bloated. with this many characters it could have easily felt all over the place, i think they did a good job making it work. was truly shocked that Gamora actually died, and hope they leave her dead, really think that adds a lot of emotion to Quill's character.

I'm not surprised at the international record because worldwide Marvel seems to be bigger than SW. SW is very popular among English speaking countries and white people but it doesn't come close to Marvel in China (I know China isn't part of the international market yet), Latin America, and India. Infinity War made a lot of opening day records in South America, southeast Asia, Indio-Pacific, and in places like United Arab Emirates (along with a few other Middle Eastern locations) and West Africa.

I was a little surprised at the US sales topping SW but now that I think of it, Marvel has gained momentum with most of their films in a time that there have only been two major SW films with one of them being pretty divisive.

im not surprised at all that this beat TFA. they've been building to this since 2008 when they began phase 1.

  22. Killing women to add “emotion” to men characters sure ticks me off that we’re still doing it.

    I do not exist.

Saw the film last night. I wasn’t a big fan of Age of Ultron and I thought that Civil War was lacking and unconvincingly shoehorned the characters in for the airport battle. My expectations for this were that it would be a fun mess that would be ultimately disappointing. If they couldn’t handle the number of characters in Civil War, there was no way they’d pull this off.

I was totally wrong. This was probably the most ambitious film I’ve seen. Unlike Civil War I felt I connected with the characters and I loved seeing them interact and meet each other. They all seemed to have purpose. I was shocked by some of the deaths - and having no idea about the comics I didn’t know the end was going to be that dramatic. (Also, I thought i’d read on here that they’d decided to not make Avengers 4 a part II and the rumour was that it was going to be based on Secret Wars?!? So I kept expecting them to just defeat Thanos and the film to end! Although I’d never claim the film to be as good as Star Wars episode 5, my emotions after this were similar - how many films end like this one?)

Unlike Ultron, the humour was spot on. There were so many memorable moments. Particularly loved Thor and Quill but it feels wrong singling one out!

I was surprised at the treatment of Thanos - pleased we had genuine motivations and got to understand him as a character. I didn’t think they’d do that. Particularly his interactions with Gomora and how/where he ended the film.

I’m just completely shocked that I didn’t find the film to be a disjointed mess. I really thought this was excellent. I was on edge throughout and thought the twists and turns were engaging.

And the best bit was this: my wife loved it too. I’ve dragged her along to a few superhero films over the years and it always feels like she tolerates them but it’s not her ‘thing’... this one she absolutely LOVED. I couldn’t believe it. She kept talking about it afterwards. It made my day and honestly, made all this hype and build up worth it. I really didn’t think that they’d pull off a film of this scale as well as they have done.

you know i never thought about it that way until just now. i can absolutely understand why that would get under skin. did not mean to offend at all.
