  1. If you really don’t watch or read or experience great art for this silly reason ... it’s very funny to me. Missing out on a lot.

If this is a response to be being disappointed if Thanos didn’t do the snap, I never said it was a make or break. I would have just been let down if he didn’t do it but I would have still enjoyed the rest of the movie.

I was using the general "you"

If not for that reason then why? You literally won't watch something because you know how it ends, that's all you've said. That it ruins it for you. How?

Like I had the ending of The Sopranos (and many of the deaths) spoiled for me before I ever finally sat down and watched it. I still enjoyed all of it because simply learning what happens is not the crux of any good story.

When a person talks about a movie they love it's pretty common for them to say they've seen it multiple times. They already know everything that's going to happen lol

That’s fine if those are your feelings on the matter. I have mine. That’s it.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lol I don't know why you're being defensive here or don't want to explain. I just asked you how it ruins it for you.

Actually you didn't say it ruins it, you said you *wouldn't even see it." So you're saying you have a history of not just enjoying something a little less because it was spoiled for you, but genuinely disliking it for that sole reason?

You're the one who called yourself a philistine. I'm just trying to understand haha

  10. This is like not listening to a song because you’ve read the lyrics to a verse. Madness.

  11. Or not seeing a movie because you’ve read the book. Or vice versa.

    Just a friendly reminder

This is a remarkably dumb argument. Some people have pet peeves that may seem inexplicable to others. It's pointless to make it a whole thing.

  13. So much more to a movie than a script. So much more.

there are plenty of songs out there that I can read a lyric to the verse and know I have no desire to listen to the rest of the song

Sure, depending on the movie, it can still be fun to watch it if you have the ending spoiled. There are plenty of movies that hold up after repeat viewings. But people don't have unlimited time. I don't think its a unreasonable position to have where if you know the ending to a movie it makes you less interested in watching it over something that is completely fresh.

  16. I don’t even know what’s considered a big enough spoiler. Like do you not watch any prequels? If a show parodies something can you now not watch the original? Do you not see something with a twist if you’ve read the book? What’s the difference? What if it’s based on a comic book with a known ending? I dunno. I can’t imagine limiting film in that way, especially. There’s so much more to see and experience even if you read the entire script for a movie.

  17. I’d definitely judge you for not listening to a song because you read a verse. That’s an extremely myopic way of looking at music. Some great great songs with some stupid stupid lyrics. Just ask @Wharf Rat :-p

If you don’t want to watch a great, classic movie cause you know it’s a sled or who the killer is, and would rather watch a “fresh” bad one, go for it. I think you’re nuts.

shit lyrics are gonna make a shit song. not that crazy of a concept

also why are you assuming I'm watching a bad movie instead? there are plenty of good movies out there. more than I can watch. I won't refuse to watch something if I know how it ends... but it'll quite possibly make me less likely to want to watch it

  19. No they don’t. There are so, so, so, so many shitty lyrics in great songs. There are great songs with fake words for lyrics.

Yeah if a song's lyrics give enough away about the song itself - like, say, the lyrics to "Gucci Gang" give you a semi-decent idea that you're going into a silly rap (trap?) song - then your distaste of it to the degree that you won't even bother listening says more about your aversion to that entire field of music than that song specifically. The same way one wouldn't want to bother seeing an MCU because they don't enjoy superhero movies in general. They would probably only bother watching it if someone who knew they didn't like superhero movies still recommended it to them

  21. @Wharf Rat is this song any good? Should I listen to it based off the lyrics being weird?

Creepy alligator comin all around the bend
Talkin bout the times when we was mutual friends
    I check my mem'ry
I check it quick yes I will
    I check it runnin
    some old kind of trick

there exist good songs with poor lyrics. but there are not that many, and there is certainly a point where if the lyrics are shitty enough the song cannot be good. so its completely reasonable for someone to go "yeah, I'm going to go listen to other stuff". maybe later if they have time with enough recommendation, they can try listening to the song. but like I said before, time is finite. shitty lyrics greatly increase the chance the song will suck so why bother with the risk unless you have extra evidence to counter the non-shittiness?

  23. There are thousands and thousands of great songs with poor lyrics.

so are you suggesting I should listen to an Attila song before writing them off as a shit band?
