Spoilers until release day, that includes Thursday night showings. But once Friday hits, enter at your own risk. Lurking in here once it's out trying to avoid spoilers kind of feels like shooting yourself in the foot.

    Just my opinion.

Wasn't Valkyrie on the ship with Thor at the end of Ragnarok? Or am I completely misremembering. What happened to Tessa Thompson?

I couldn't sleep for like 3 hours when I got home because I was going through so many emotions. Kind of sad I let a comic book movie get me like this lol

I'm pretty sure that Nebula is going to be the one to stop Thanos. I'll be very surprised if she doesn't. Especially if we know that Adam Warlock will not be in A4.

I loved this so much. Honestly might be the best movie going experience I've ever had. So much joy.

May be some newness bias since I've just walked out but it's easily my favourite Marvel film and maybe my favourite comic book film in general. Next year can't come soon enough.

"You should've gone for the head." Daaaaaamn that moment.

    Some things I loved:

    - The Guardians continue to be just the absolute best. The banter, the characters, everything. Felt most of the jokes this time around with them landed even better that on GOTG2 (which I loved). Thor needs to join the Guardians forever.
    - The amount of screen time Thor got and how you felt you've been through it all with him, his arc felt really complete even with how different Ragnarok was. His speech about not having anything to lose. Probably the most heartfelt moment.
    - I love how characters that no one cared about ten years ago (Cap and Thor) have won over audiences completely and can create such wild reactions now (Cap's first appearance although it was already in the trailer, Thor's entrance in Wakanda)
    - I thought Thanos' CGI rendition was going to be distracting, and it was, but in a good way. It was really really good and he looked ridiculously real.
    - "I am Groot" "I am Steve Rogers"
    - "You can't eat dumbbells you know"
    - Quill trying to imitate Thor's voice.
    - They weren't kidding when they said it was Thanos' movie. I love how they finally switched things up and at least for one movie, the bad guy one. It was pretty devastating though. If I were ten - or twenty years younger, I'd be so crushed right now.
    - I loved, loved looooved the very beginning with Thor's call for help. Beautifully done. Set the tone so well. Made the most of the ending of Ragnarok.

    Some things I didn't love:

    - I was afraid this would happen and it did. At one point toward the end I was fatigued with the amount of CGI and amount of stuff happening. It kind of took me out of the experience so the ending didn't have as much of an effect on me.
    - Ending didn't really hit me because it... felt a bit too gimmicky. Like - I know these characters are coming back. I would've liked to see everyone who faded away together in a parallel dimension or to have the movie immediately end after Thanos' snap. I didn't really care for Spidey in Tony's arms either, maybe I've grown cold. Groot disappearing and Rocket going "not again" did break me though but I have a special connection.
    - Bubbles. Really? Twice? Bubbles?
    - Toward the end I felt like this movie is the "make it or break it" moment for Marvel where kinda everything starts watering down or it somehow continues to reinvent itself and succeed. It could go either way but I can't imagine everything getting bigger and the next villain to be more powerful and so on. I know Fantastic Four and X-Men are there somewhere down the line but I think I'm ready for a clean slate, recalibration, back to basics.
    - For just a moment I thought Tony was done for. It hit me bad. Then he wasn't and thought I knew they couldn't do it. I think that's what reduced the impact of the following "deaths" and I felt kind of anesthetized toward anything and everything that could happen in this movie or the next. It would take a looot of effort to really kill someone in the next one and make me care after teasing it so many times.

I think I would've preferred it ending with the snap of Thanos' fingers as well.

I hope it becomes a running thing that Spider-Man copies moves/plans from movies. That’s a really fun trope and makes total sense because he’s still a kid with little experience.

Eh I disagree. As somebody who doesn’t know the comics I had no idea what that meant nor most viewers probably. Seeing his vision through was necessary and also left us with a perfect feeling of despair and how the fuck can they beat him now.

If t was just a snap it would be so unsatisying and kind unfair to the audience. They’d be like... wait. What happened?

The fatal flaws of how the MCU operates undercut this movie. First, we had two really strong MCU movies with lasting, resonant consequences. Thor saves Asgard as a resolution of the growth of their people, and loses an eye as a symbol of what it took for him, personally, only for Asgard to be completely wiped out in an off-screen genocide, and hey, he gets an eye back. Meanwhile Peter Parker rejects the Iron Spider suit because he has a long way to go, and he gets it thrown on him almost immediately after he joins the action. Any sense of personal consequence and narrative, thematic growth for those individual stories is thrown under the bus for spectacle in this movie.

Meanwhile, the emotional core of this movie is tied to Vision, Wanda, and Thanos, but spends virtually no time with any emotionally weighty scenes for them. Yeah Vision and Wanda are in a relationship, but we get one three minute (if that) sequence to build them as people. And Thanos, he’s a shell. Where is the dramatization of the train of thought that takes him to deciding unparalleled genocide is in the best interests of society? Never mind the fact that he’s apparently had no trouble repeating this pattern and slaughtering trillions of people without the Infinity Stones until now, so why does he suddenly need them so badly? Especially when he has barely surface level knowledge of who the Avengers are? Did I miss something? Why does Gamora mean something to him? What does he gain out of their relationship, and why is that worth sacrificing for the soul stone? These movies don’t ground him. His motivations are vague and he barely even tries to articulate the reasoning behind them or demonstrate that it Is a process that nets results?

This movie contains multiple literal genocides but rarely grounds the consequences of the trillions of anonymous lives lost, instead focusing on the superheroes, but even they are barely given arcs and emotional, thematic psyche’s in this movie. And I get it, because there’s an unimaginable amount of tablesetting this movie has to do to set up just the basic mechanics of the plot and getting everyone together. But that plot doesn’t hit without the character stuff, and it left that work to previous movies, assuming we’ll fill in the gaps instead of giving us immediate tangible emotional cores to these people. I do like most of these characters, and like seeing them together, but it does so little with their new dynamics. What did we learn about Thor, Rocket, and Groot from their being lured together? What about Peter and Strange? What did they bring out in each other that was unavailable if they’d been paired with anyone else?

This was frustrating. Entertaining but so messy and thin. Overall I identified hard with the old black dude next to me who literally snored throughout most of the movie, then woke up and started watching when the tribal drums kicked in and we first got to see Wakanda again.

This movie highlights how fucking dumb the flip phone and letter Cap left Tony at the end of Civil War was. Imagine the heightened tension if, knowing the most overwhelming challenge humanity has ever faced was coming, and Stark had no idea how to reach Steve, or how Steve would react even if they did see each other? But no, we have the “gimme a call if you ever need me, you know we’re good in the end” out.

Oh, and when most of your characters of color are side characters, it’s not a good look to keep killing them and brutalizing them while the white characters gain story out of it (referring to Gamora and Heimdall, not the fakeout fade to dust deaths at the end. Plus Don Cheadle in Civil War).

I really liked the father/daughter relationship explored. Seeing Gamora cry when she thought she killed Thanos showed how manipulative their relationship was but how she still had some feelings towards him as he was the one who raised her. That’s at least what I got from it.
