We’ll probably spoiler tag until Monday.

I think everyone should spoiler tag through Monday, I think it's fair of a movie of this magnitude.

Even if it loses its record, it will be by a very small amount.

Some dilhole put the plot on the Wikipedia page. As soon as I saw that something was there other than the premise I exited the site. I’m not getting spoiled

    So assuming that this weekend...

I think spoiler tag through Monday is a great idea. I know that after the film I'll definitely want to come talk about it, but I don't want to ruin it for people. That being said, if you're unable to catch the film its opening weekend you should probably stay away from most parts of the internet until you're able to see it.

I mean, some of these are not wrong. Michael Phillips and AO Scott are critics I usually trust, even if I don't agree with them. I'd say the best one is by Matt Zoller Seitz, which is kind of in the middle. These Reddit dorks that want to go after critics that give it a negative review kill me.

Who wouldve expected a movie with 70+ characters to be "overstuffed"?

I do feel like some of the criticisms regarding this are dramatic. It’s impossible to have a movie of this magnitude and for it to not be “overstuffed”. That should be expected.

    Assume It's A Bit

If the biggest issue with this movie is it feeling overstuffed (which it never was going to feel otherwise, let's be honest), it'll be fine.

I’m not going to go too deep into the weeds on this until other people see it, but my thought with no spoilers is something like “Civil War” could easily be expected to be overstuffed, but because it’s mainly about Cap, Iron Man and Bucky, it avoids that and let’s most of the characters hang out in the background. This...does not do that. There’s so many storylines that it’s tough to figure out what the main one is.

Yeah I don't think it's unfair criticism but I'm already expecting most of that stuff and I'm very much ok with it.

"pedal-to-the-metal pandemonium" sounds like a good time to me, lol.

I mean, they're going for the whole comic book crossover event approach. I have no idea how that'll play for general film audiences, but as a comic book fan, I'm personally excited to have something on this scale in movie form.

I agree, this isn't a conventional film by any means. I don't think this gives it a "pass" in criticism, but I think that a lot of what critics would dislike about this film is just in the DNA of doing something like this on screen.

Any part of a movie is open game because it’s subjectibe. I just don’t buy it that the ones complaining had no idea of the magnitude of the film and what it would mean for the number of characters.

Your original comment was "It’s impossible to have a movie of this magnitude and for it to not be “overstuffed”. That should be expected" and I'm saying that choosing to have so many characters that it feels overstuffed is a valid criticism in that maybe they shouldn't have done it in the first place or a better director would make it flow better or whatever.

I agree with this. I think any aspect of a movie is fair game to criticize, and I certainly think "They could've done this in a different way" is a fair argument. Context matters, but it also doesn't mean critics can't look at "what if's" in trying to analyze flaws.

Sorry, I still think it’s ignorance on the part of the critic to go into Infinity War while expecting it to not be overstuffed. There’s over 30 big characters in this film and they will all need some amount of screen time. My response is just “duh”. I’m not saying it’s not a bummer, but it should definitely not be a surprise.

There are other criticisms to pick that are audiences familiar with the MCU were not already aware of a year and a half ago.

Finally on my way into town to see the film, bite to eat beforehand too. Feel free to PM me with some questions if you can't wait and I'll answer best I can when I get back. Will NOT be posting any spoilers because that's just not fair.

Who's saying that it's a surprise? Being overstuffed is a problem and there's nothing wrong with criticizing a movie about it, whether they were surprised or not.
