    I do not exist.

@Tim has said everything better than I could. But @FreshnessExpired, if you don’t see how the implications of your original post were a POC should direct films starring POC and women should direct films about women then there’s a problem.

Also why do people always talk about “sacrificing talent”? Can we not see that there’s a whole sea of talent being completely ignored in favour of safe choices that produce safe films? That’s what scares me!

  2. Because their perception of talent doesn't extend too far beyond the casts of these types of movies so they don't realize that what we have now is the real sacrifice of talent.

    Complains about wanting more representation.

Complains when someone who isn't part of that the minority writes/directs a movie and gets the character wrong.

Complains when someone agrees and says that minority characters could use the writing and directing of minority talent that is passionate about their sex/race being represented.

This is why 99% of the internet doesn't care about these topics.

My post is about how people complain about everything. You complain about the problem and complain when someone agrees with the problem.

When you complain about Joss Whedon getting Black Widow wrong because he is a male and can't write her part and then complain when someone suggests that they get a women who will more than likely be able to see things through Black Widow's eyes more clearly then you're going in an endless circle that people will not care to get exhausted in. You don't want a male, but see it as problematic when it's a women. There isn't an end game. It's just arguing that you will adapt to any chance that invites complaining. You're being your worst own enemy and everyone who isn't in this community will leave this conversation.

It's really not that hard a concept. There's a lot of nuance when you get to the nitty gritty, but the overarching ideas are easy to understand if you take a step back and think about it:

If you're making a big budget movie centered on a character who is part of a marginalized demographic, you need a member of that marginalized demographic to be heavily involved in that process start to finish to make sure the experience is depicted accurately and respectfully, even if said story also involves fantasy/sci-fi/superhero nonsense.

But, on the flip side, you also can't contribute to that marginalizing by relegating those voices to corresponding characters. If you only consider minority voices for minority characters, while that's a step in the right direction away from white dudes running everything, that's still an act of discrimination.

Stories centered around Wonder Woman, Luke Cage, Batgirl, Ms Marvel, Shang-Chi, etc., shouldn't be done without the appropriate voices in the creative process. AND, filmmakers like Lexi Alexander, Taika Waititi, and Patty Jenkins should still have access to stories that aren't centered on people who look like them. (And, since Hollywood is already bigoted, giving them access means actively seeking them out.)

Both sides are part of the same macro scale, multifaceted problem, a problem that neither side can tackle appropriately without the other.

So your solution would be that if a non-marginalized director or writer is chosen for a marginalized character then they should have someone of the marginalized group work with them, but directly relating marginalized characters with must have marginalized writers/directors is a wrong step.

I understand that. I was just trying to figure out what solutions people here had.

A couple of clips have leaked. Doesn't look like trailer footage, so who knows the context or how the hell it leaked. Kinda shitty that it's happened like this.

Is the quality any good? Also they had to expect something like this might happen when they showed the trailer for the first time like what, 3 months ago?

They should have made the footage shown to others public, I don't get that strategy to be honest.

Good, let things leak. Something should have been out a long time ago.

Why the heck would someone celebrate leaks, as if it's some sort of justice against the evils not following your opinion of what good marketing is? Gosh. I'm all for critiquing strategies, but like, a leak of Superman or Steppenwolf footage pre-Justice League wouldn't have made me go, "Ha! Serves you right!" Movies don't need freakin' vigilante justice or whatever.

To play devil's advocate, we wouldn't have Deadpool without that type of approach. That and all of the Sony leaks really helped pressure studios into making some changes that seemed to have 'bettered' the industry.

This situation is a bit weird and we have zero context for whatever that is.

The Deadpool example was pushing a studio to let a film get made, though, which is different from leaking footage from an upcoming film that a lot of people are already excited for. The Sony leaks were a different kinda thing, too.

That post celebrating the leak just feels really entitled and stupid. Like, chill. We got 7 theatrical Marvel and DC films this year and are getting 9 next year, lol. This month alone had 2 of 'em. The trailer will almost certainly be attached to The Last Jedi.

Celebrate is a strong word, and probably an exaggeration of what I actually said. My point was that when you show footage privately, but don't have any sort of teaser for one of your biggest films ever, people are likely going to be more on the hunt for things like this.

I presume these marketing shots were taken before Thor's release and they didn't want to potentially spoil anything. Thor should also be missing an eye and Cap is clean shaven here and I'm pretty sure he has a beard in IW.

The Russo Brothers just posted this on their Instagram. It's kind of interesting that Jimmy Kimmel's guests on Thursday night is just Elizabeth Banks and Matt Smith. I'll bet we'll get a trailer release there in some form.
