I loved the Captain Marvel movie and am just bummed we didn't get more of her in this. But the moments we did get of her were great. The only thing I truly hate is Captain America's ending. It breaks the rules of time travel that the Russo brothers made for this movie themselves. The only viable explanation is that Steve lived in a separate timeline and then decided to use the time travel device as an old man to bring him back to this one. Him going back and staying would have formed a new timeline, so he shouldn't be able to just age and show up in the present timeline that we are all familiar with
How is Far From Home going to reconcile that it's 2023? Did all of Peter's friends conveniently dust which allows them to remain in the same grade?
How did Thanos and Co. time travel to 2023 without Pym Particle, Quantum suits, etc.? The Avengers couldn't turn their Quantum machine on and just fly a ship through a portal to another year.
Uh, Nebula uses the time machine (or time heist machine) to bring back her pops. They literally show her do it.
I know they showed her flipping switches on the Avengers quantum machine. It still doesn't make sense given how time travel was set up via Pym particle, Quantum suits and the Quantum machine. Why bother with Pym particle, Quantum suits, traveling to 1970 to get more Pym particle... if you can just turn the machine on and fly a ship through a portal to another year?
Loved this, even more so than Infinity War and that is despite me being able to acknowledge the narrative stumbles that are present.
I just assumed it was to do with 2014 Nebula being connected to 2014 and also her exploiting the machinery there to create a portal. Didn’t think about that though.
Even before that ending, I'm confused about the time travel rules. Like I wish that was set up better, like the perfect use of time travel in the 3rd Harry Potter book. But then they would've had to have this plan all along. One question to start, does Steve remember fighting himself all along?
They made a distinct point of Evil Nebula showing the Pym particle to Thanos...we really think someone in Thanos’ squad couldn’t have duplicated the technology? Especially when Nebula herself is such a complex scientific experiment.
More I think about it I really feel like Captain Marvel was shoehorned into this story/universe, can’t wait to see her from here on out. And not a big deal, but wasn’t a fan of the short hair look — glad Brie got a better feel for that after the solo film.
After my first viewing on Thurs, I’d give this around a B+. That’s pretty much how I feel about most Marvel films ha. Overall, I really enjoyed it (didn’t feel like three hours at all) but yeah, Captain Marvel was used in a bit of a clunky way and Nat’s death was very unsatisfying/not great. Looking forward to seeing this again in a few hours, I always like these films much more on the second go around.
No. That was a different timeline/reality. The 2012 Steve will remember fighting himself. But he will just think it was Loki, esp since Loki escapes in that timeline. Our Steve never fought himself. That’s my understanding at least.
I’m seeing it again this weekend, and I’m gonna keep my eye on this part. There are typically a vast group of people who dissect and analyze these things for a YT “explainer” vids, so maybe someone smarter than us can help. But someone above said she shows Thanos the Pym partciles, but shit, I can’t remember bc I was geeking out too hard about other stuff, ha.
Feel like I liked this so much because of the themes and the emotional/nostalgia impact it had, makes it easier to forgive narrative issues and disappointments (e.g. not a fan of the Hulk/Banner we got in these two movies, though I get what they were going for in this one). About to see it again, curious to see how I feel and what I pick up on after a second viewing.
I actually think most of the Thor PTSD stuff was handled better in the second viewing, besides the audience laughing at bad parts that just showed his body. Only really bad stuff was Rocket slapping him and his mom telling him to eat a salad (after giving him the pep talk of the century)
I love that this implies he got dusted, then Strange deemed him necessary enough for the worlds survival that he had to go bring him to the battle
