Paul Rudd was hilarious in this. The moment when Wasp said "Cap" and he had a big grin because she berated him for calling him Cap in AMATW was great.
As others have said, Infinity War was Thanos' movie. This was not. Thanos rules, so Infinity War > Endgame.
I actually expected to see a new team at the end but I’m glad they didn’t as it helped this feel like a closure to everything before it. I would be perfectly fine if we don’t get another Avengers film for 5 or so years at the minimum.
Him and Pratt are so good together, between IW and this, that I really hope he's actually in Guardians 3. That scene at the end was maybe the funniest overall scene in the movie, mainly due to just how perfect Hemsworth's comedic timing is (also he's had just flat-out great comedic direction, between Taika and the Russos).
It's amazing how far MoCap and CGI have come that you can feel in your soul the mixture of pure shock and terror on Thanos' face as Carol just freaking tanks that headbutt without breaking her death stare.
I think the action in this was a lottttttt stronger than in previous Russo joints Way less Bourne style cutting, the giant LOTR style battle was wayyyyy less chaotic and video game simulation feeling than the siege on Wakanda the "Ronin" (loved that comics nod btw) sequence in Tokyo was my personal highlight along with the OG trio taking on Thanos
Cap using his shield and Mjolnir together was so perfectly shot and choreographed, my jaw was just on the floor for that entire sequence.
The CGI for Thanos was so good. Maybe Endgame will get a nomination for best special effects at the academy next year.
Esther, I'm sure you noticed when, during our screening of this movie, as soon as Hot Hulk thumped his incredible bod onto that giant theater screen I had what I can only describe as a full-body spasm. "No," I whispered to myself as I experienced a violent set of visions of Land's End catalogs featuring Hot Hulk in zip-ups, in flannels, in cowl-neck sweaters, relaxing on the shores of mountain streams and New England beaches with a handsome dog and a lovely wife (me). "Yes," the Russos whispered back, as human men were ruined for me forever before my very eyes.
"Hot Hulk" was the #1 thing in Endgame that I didn't know I needed. The Russos were absolutely there for me on that one though.
60 million from thursday night showings and already up to 305 million in international markets so in reality 365 million already
The ending of Thor and Valkyrie gazing out over the cliff at "New Asgard" had to be a Lebowski homage to The Dude and Walter scattering Walter's ashes... right?
Didn't think of that but maybe. Would've also been great if when Thanos got dusted it had blown back in Thor's face, though. (kidding)
