*waves cane* back in my day we sat through Return Of The King with no intermission and we turned out fine.
it was always meant to be part 1 of 2, wasn't it? even if they decided to not make it IW Prt 1 & 2 officially.
Yeah them changing the name was 100% a marketing thing because people started souring on the whole "Part 1/2" thing after they had announced it.
Back when advanced showings meant midnight only, too! Now they pretty much start in the afternoon on Thursdays.
I saw those movies at least twice each in theaters as a kid & loved 'em. Fully captivated throughout. But, as an adult, spending 3+ hrs sitting in a theater w/out getting a break (w/out missing something) just sounds so tedious anymore. Especially when, once upon a time, great movies had a great solution, one that actually worked well with the pacing of the film. Imagine, after some big 2nd act sequence, getting an intermission. You can stretch your legs. You can pee. You can check your phone. You can get more popcorn. You can talk about what's happened thus far with your friends, or even with other people in the theater if that's your thing. Would probably add a ton to the theater experience, which more & more people are opting out of. Yeah. And, changing the names was a bad choice. If that's what you're doing, let general audiences know as much. Don't market it as the big, epic culmination, & then leave people hanging.
To be fair, the name change makes sense. Infinity War is about Thanos’ quest to bring balance and ends with him bringing balance, the story within that context is wrapped. The next film will be about the avengers undoing what Thanos did. It makes sense to not label them part 1 and part 2, unlike the deathly hallows and mockingjay.
the intermission is just a guide on how to farm by thanos let me have this one pls marvel or spiderman doing meme stuff because millennial
My bladder somehow seems to be smaller between seeing that in middle (or elementary?) school and now lmao. I'd have to let myself get pretty dehydrated to sit through a 3 hour film. And as an adult, it's kind of nice to enjoy a beer during :P
I hadn't even started high school by the time the trilogy was over. Also the theater that I saw all three in no longer exists. ALSO lemme officially go on record as being anti-intermission. Strap me in and lets do the damn thing.
Still makes no sense to me how Ant-Man and the gang are completely unaware of the giant alien invasion on Earth.
The way I rationalized is that they did know (at least about New York), but just had their own thing going on and figured the Avengers could handle it. Plus, the real invasion happened in Wakanda, which I presume is still pretty isolated even considering the end of Black Panther
So I rewatched the fight on Titan and this has probably been pointed out but: you know how in the beginning of the movie Wong severs that dude’s arm by closing the portal on him? Couldn’t Dr. Strange just open a portal underneath Thanos’ or anyone else’s feet, then kill them by closing it when they’re like halfway through or something? Seems like a super OP ability that isn’t addressed at all
I’ve thought about that but couldn’t Thanos just change reality where the portal turns into something less harmful? Maybe Strange did do that in one of the futures that they failed in. I’m sure this is something the writers just didn’t care to discuss or failed to think of but in my head I like to explain it that way.
It would be interesting if Thanos was able to look into the millions of futures that Doctor Strange did.
The main thing on this note I've heard mentioned is Strange not cutting Thanos' gauntlet arm off. Those kinda critiques are tricky 'cause they easily slip into Cinema Sins territory, which is movie discourse rock bottom. Especially for comic book movies. But, it's also important for stories to have reasonably solid internal logic, especially when the dismemberment happened in this same film & their strategy did involve removing the gauntlet. A couple small tweaks would've made that less annoying.
