Acting like a victim because other people don’t like the music you do is pretty weak imo but whatever, pretty clear a few other people are okay with the songs and are excited for the album too so idk what you’re really on about here

I don't know where you get the "acting like a victim" angle from, and the people who are okay posted after my post, so hooray, I got my wish?

Listen, you can either try to see my point of view or don't, it's fine. I'd like a universe where we can discuss things like this without being vitriolic.

True, but I don't think he's trying to be. It's a pretty on the nose tribute, but both are obviously influenced by a wide array of music and genres and I think that alone lends itself to a pretty varied creative output.

I've never really been into A7X that much, save for a few songs here and there across their discography, but these last two really aren't for me.

I'm gonna give the album a try once it drops and hopefully it makes more sense, but for now they just seem like very non-songs to me.

Not trying to drag this out, but I'd like to highlight that this is a very respectful and respectable post expressing dissatisfaction.

    post RADICAL

I'm 2/2 on the singles. I haven't liked anything since Nightmare, so these singles have gotten me back into listening to the band. Stoked to hear the rest of the album. I hope it's weird and experimental. I can only applaud them for switching it up from what I was expecting when they announced the album not too long ago.

Weird thread. Songs are bad, seems strange to pearl clutch and tone police posters for not liking Avenged Sevenfold's 2023 output. Loved this band when I was 14.

Seems strange to me to be a dick, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Like the world isn't so full of negative shit already that people find it impossible to understand why maybe we don't need to dump more negativity out in the world.

Bad faith take, this "let people enjoy stuff" head-in-the-sand nonsense. It's okay that the folks discussing new Avenged Sevenfold singles on a music discussion board don't unanimously like the new songs.

As I've pointed out above, I'm fine with differing opinions. The "bad faith" is thinking that includes flat "This sucks", "This is awful" posts that are completely negative and offer no point of discussion.

Like, is it really that hard? It feels like it shouldn't be, and it's depressing that people will fight this hard for the right to be completely caustic.

As a great musician once said, "Just don't be a dick. It's that simple."

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

My initial reaction was what the fuck did I listen to

My thought our response is Shadow’s vocals have gotten so poor, and it reduces any enjoyment I have for any new material. The song musically just feels so disjointed which sure, maybe that’s what they’re going for but I don’t think it works at all

hopefully that’s enough of an opinion typed out now instead of me reacting confused to a song I find bad

This is quite literally a bad faith argument - people are allowed to say "this sucks", "this is awful", etc. if that's how they feel about these singles. You just don't like that people are voicing their differing opinions. You are not entitled to police other posters' tones or tastes. Just because you don't like the discussion doesn't invalidate the discussion.

Using a thin veneer of civility to shut down any discussion that isn't to your liking on a music discussion board counts as being a dick in my book. It's that simple.

Again, weird thread. Judging by the standard the band set for themselves as recently as their last record (which I personally did not care for, but it was well received by critics), these new singles ain't it.

This is absolutely fine, and this discussion is getting absurd.

It's my experience that the people who argue hardest for being able to shit-talk are the ones shit-talking, and it's bewildering how impossible it is for them to see how being incredibly negative is off-putting.

The one thing I haven't heard yet is what anyone gets out of it. Like yeah, share your opinion, yadda yadda, but no one's explained why they feel the need to be hostile about it.

Also "bad faith" implies deception, and I think the only real deception is claiming I'm not okay with negative opinions when I've literally pointed out a reasonable negative opinion that is fine. Two now.

It's like people want to be free to say "this sucks" but then get bent out of shape when someone takes issue. We can play this chicken and egg argument all day.

You're projecting the hostility. Criticism of a band's single is not a personal attack on you. When the album comes out and is reviewed poorly, the critics are not personally attacking the members of Avenged Sevenfold.

You've both got me right and wrong.

So, okay, a long time back I was part of a forum where my taste in music was what you would call the outlier. I was a lot younger then, as was everyone else, but it was impossible for me to have a discussion about bands I liked, because it would always be met with criticism and hate. It was frustrating, especially since it would turn into conversations about "why do you listen to this". I eventually left that forum.

So maybe it does strike a nerve when I see a lot of people shitting on something at once. I don't think I'm wrong when I say there's a kinder way to have discussion that makes it more open and inviting for people to participate. And I'm not seeing things as a personal attack, but I am seeing that it's not the kind of activity where you feel like "I can participate in this discussion".

I really wish you'd stop making me sound like I don't want any criticism at all. I've already proven that wrong twice. Why is it so hard to accept a more nuanced take on this? Why do you have to see my point of view in black and white?

Honestly I don’t mean for my comments on the music to come off in a bad place of judgement. I used to be a low-key fan of A7X way back in my high school years so I do wish them all the continued success.

I guess the new music just isn’t for me.

“Many bands would have either thought ‘job done’ and resumed normal service, or bottled it and scurried back to safer musical ground. Not Avenged. Their eighth album goes even further out. It’s a deranged psycho-metal musical with hardcore, hip hop, electronic music and jazz burned into its circuits and liquid LSD running through its veins. Kaleidoscopic, disorientating and fearless, it truly is the sound of a band who have stopped giving a single fuck about what people think of them.”

Honestly reading this makes me more intrigued for the album. I respect that they’re going for something ambitious rather than just playing it safe with radio hard rock forever.

I respect and appreciate that approach to creation. Better to be interesting and fail than play it safe and potentially make something boring.
