I think it will be ok that it’s toned down as long as we still get the big moments, specifically with Suki’s introduction. A lot of that is toned down in the anime anyways after meeting Suki which is episode 4 so it happens pretty quickly. Hopefully they don’t turn down the Northern Water Tribe though because they deserve to be dragged.
I was cautiously optimistic just because I really want to enjoy it, but I’m filled with more and more dread about how much they’re going to botch this with every word they say about it now. Like why would you want to pre-piss off your dedicated fanbase before your show premieres? Just don’t say anything and at least pull the wool over our eyes lol
So they’ve made the same exact mistake with Aang that Shyamalan made. Didn’t learn a thing. That’s neat.
“Not just for kids” yeah they clearly didn’t watch the original show because the story isn’t just for kids.
Man right out the gate they make creative choices / changes to the cartoon that are just infuriating. I can absolutely see why the creators left and how Netflix was clearly forcing the issue on aging the series up tonally (i.e. wanting more of a Game of Thrones feel). Oh well time to watch the cartoon.
Like, why the hell are we starting here? The whole reason the start of the show works is because we don’t know Aang, which plays into his weirdness. Like we already know this prophecy thrust upon him already!
Choosing to not have Aang run away is egregious. Not to mention how much that beginning undercuts multiple excellently paced moments from later in the season.
This is honestly some of the worst acting I've ever seen in such an expensive show haha. The kid who plays Aang cannot act
It's otherwise a pretty shot for shot remake so far in episode one. Exact same scenes and lines. There's just an added extended intro that felt unnecessary ...but that acting is so so bad.
Ngl the production of this really is just so funny as shit to me, I'm kind of having a great time for all the wrong reasons
