These are really the only movies where 3D feels essential to the viewing experience and not just a gimmick to increase revenue.
It's on me because either the filmmakers or the theater dropped the ball on making sure the movie was properly presented in 2D?
Scouring reddit it looks like many are complaining of the same frame rate issues in 3D as well. Maybe it's due to certain theater projectors not being calibrated correctly, and I was one of the unlucky ones. Way of Water looked great in 2D, so I thought Fire & Ash would fare the same.
Both of these last couple films have felt kinda choppy at times in the frame rate, but that’ll happen when you’re pushing that far visually. The 3d & frame rate is still such a special experience. Would love to eventually see another filmmaker do a non Avatar movie with a lot of the same motion capture approach, at the same level.
I'm still in awe that I sat through a 3+ hour fully 3D movie and not once did it feel like it from a fatigue standpoint. Whatever Jim figured out in that department he needs to spread the wealth to anyone else doing 3D. The 2 minute Mercy trailer in 3D before it made me feel nauseated almost immediately.
Saw it in 2D and didn't notice any issues on that front, but I remember having that motion smoothing feeling in certain scenes when I saw The Way Of Water in 3D
Damn this is a pretty movie just a few minutes in. And is also the largest movie I have sitting on my hard drive by a large margin.
Quoting this because I wanted to see if I could be the first to make this joke. Alas, I was too full of hope.
Most beautiful movie I've ever seen and really fun but man that second half was kind of just Avatar 2 all over again, down to half the family being held captive on a ship again
Tbh, the more I think about this movie, the more I dislike it. Not only is it a rehash of the second movie, but they barely build up the new VERY interesting characters they introduced from the "fire nation" (lol). They're super cool! Give me more of that! And they kept teasing the military guy finally switching sides, but he just... Doesn't. Well he kind of maybe does? Idk. Neytiri is kinda insufferable, too, for most of the movie, and so cruel to Spider. "I hate him because he's human, despite me raising him as one of my own and marrying a human. He will NEVER be one of us. Oh, actually, I might hate my own children too because of their hands, and Jake. But actually, I am going to save them both." Come on, pick a lane! Younger Sigourney kissing Spider also just felt weird lol even if the character is a kid.
Again, still the most beautiful movie I've ever seen and ultimately enjoyed my time watching it. But ugh. The story could have been so much better.
If you could do me a solid and go back through the thread and read my posts and just pretend I replied to your posts with them, that would be great and save me a lot of time. Thanks.
Hey man this is gonna happen when it just dropped on digital lol I am surprised there aren't more at-home watchers in here
I wait to see beautiful movies on my OLED TV in Dolby Vision with all the lights off for them deep blacks baby
Anyways, I think the argument that "well this movie is just a part 2 to the second movie and not just a sequel", is just, ridiculous, frankly. Doing over the same plotline down to the ending is not a part two to a story lol. The only difference is they took the villain a step closer to being a good guy but didn't have the courage to pull the trigger on it.
