worst avatar yet, but still not bad. has all the spectacle and more that you’re expecting, but the script might be the worst in any of cameron’s movies. much larger role for spider, like its half his movie. i also agree with the critique that it redoes quite a bit of things from the second one but i liked it okay. at this point you’re in or you’re out, but i think it’s fair to acknowledge it isn’t really up there with TWOW, even if it arguably does a few things better than both of the last two. also a bit concerned for how the final entries will shake out if someone else is directing em
a criticism from certain movie reviewers that has squeaked by my spoiler defenses is that now, conveniently, the depiction of Navi being EVIL is ALSO racist. WHICH IS IT, FUCKERS?? IT'S RACIST THAT THEYRE HELPLESS TREE PEOPLE OR ITS RACIST THAT THEYRE GENOCIDAL SAVAGES? which one?? could it be that you're projecting your own one-dimensional black and white view of indigenous cultures onto any depiction of them, with the actual underlying issue being that you're mad that we have to be reminded about indigenous people at all?? anyway, can't wait to see the movie! I'm going in completely unbiased. but boy
I typically just don’t let bias sit down next to me. Just me, my popcorn, and my preconceived thoughts on how the story will play out
I'm not really that worried about how it stacks up against OTHER avatar movies. If i leave the theater and my worst takeaway is that its not as good as TWOW, thats still probably pretty good.
There is nothing wrong with having some bias. Everyone has some degree of bias. There would be no way to judge a film otherwise. We are spending on our time on a forum talking about the movie and most of us plan on seeing it opening weekend, if not today. That is a level of bias.
Besides the clunky writing and repetitive story, Breakfast All Day said that something like these shouldn't be presented as movies but moreso audiovisual immersive experiences, which is kinda what I felt while watching the second one.
definitely understand the criticisms about the way the structure retreads The Way of Water, and yes, the dialogue is still goofy as hell, but once again, 90% of everything here is just so so sick. Unbelievable action sequences. Loved the darker tone, character arcs being fleshed out, how much of this takes place at night...I cannot imagine someone enjoying The Way of Water and not this. I can't wait to see it again
