Still bizarre that the last member, I assume, people probably gave a shit about out of the OG line up is now carrying their legacy on his own.
He’s the last OG lineup member period lol. It’s a very strange “reunion” for sure, I feel like they could’ve had so much more hype if they’d managed to get Caleb or Johnny… but as it is it’s been a big “meh” for me
Yeah both Andrews came back and were on all the comeback EPs but as of a year ago guitarist Andrew Whiting exited the band.
There’s been a nostalgia-fueled resurgence of 2000s scenecore somewhat, but I feel like these guys kinda missed the opportunity to really capitalize on it between both the lack of any original vocalists and general mediocrity of the new material imo
The ideal reunion scenario imo would’ve been getting both Johnny and Caleb back on vocals and just letting those two run the whole creative direction of new material. That would’ve gotten my interest immediately. I’m not sure who asked for THIS specific reunion.
to be fair, i’ve read people saying that Attack Attack! was Wetzel’s baby and he was the lifeblood of it pretty much forever. I don’t know much about their creative process but it doesn’t surprise me that the random drummer is keeping it together in this scenario. I think the newest incarnation of the band is super mediocre but I also think they were somewhat unfairly criticized relative to their peers during the initial incarnation. that self titled record has so much fun stuff going on throughout it. i wish they would have chosen a better vocalist for the comeback. but it’s kinda crazy how all their former vocalists went on to do bigger things… you just don’t see that very often.
so my theory on the reunion was Andrew Wetzel's super group didn't pan out, they were called Nine Shrines. It featured the current lead singer of AA! on vocals (Chris Parketny) and also had members from Life On Repeat & Downplay. When that didn't go anywhere i think that's when Wetzel got back on good terms with Andrew Whiting, they put Chris on vocals and resurrected AA! (more of a name brand to get it going) But as said before it was always Wetzel's band, the singers came and went and the Andrews kept it going first album was Austin Carile and Jonny Franck second album was Jonny & Caleb shomo third album was just Caleb by himself only both Andrews and bassist John Holgado were on every full length album. Johnny and Caleb might have came back but im sure their bands are full time and they don't have the time, they weren't asked, or they passed, not sure on all that though. when all that being said, I've enjoyed all the EPs they have put out since they came back, nothing groundbreaking but fun to jam nonetheless! plus three EPs in 4 years is nothing to scoff at, they are completely DIY. I respect anyone who keeps it going for the love of the game. as for the newer stuff i especially love the electronic bridge on the outro of this song, some of the best musicality ive heard from them since their heyday
He definitely created more of a buzz around this new single / album announcement when there were articles that Andrew had kicked the other members out and gone country
that makes more sense now, i saw a comment on their recent promo on facebook where someone said wait i thought the band was just Andrew now LOL
Never heard before but this sounds sick! Instantly transported me back to the 2000s post hardcore scene.
Just listened to the new album all the way through. I haven't listened properly to anything these guys have put out in recent years, but this was actually fun and enjoyable, if you're not taking it too seriously. There were genuinely catchy songs with good choruses and breakdowns. Ridiculous lyrics but that's to be expected. Will definitely listen again!
