I was hoping to find an airport near MARTA to save some money, but those don’t exist outside of Hartsfield lol
Anybody interested in buying 2 tickets to see Jimmy Eat World at the 40 Watt in Athens November 21st? Wife bought them for us Monday but I leave for a bachelor party that evening so we can’t go..
I know this isnt a super active thread, but still surprised nobody has been in here celebrating that flip to blue last week! Makes me so proud! Also, not being pushy and just gonna do this once, but just want to shout myself out as an Atlanta based Real Estate agent. I live in Roswell but know the entire ATL area well. Hit me up if you or anyone you know is looking to buy or sell.
The Eastern is one of the coolest venues I've been to. That Thursday/Taking Back Sunday show on Sunday was a blast.
My friends and will be in Atlanta this weekend for the blink concert. Does anyone have any suggestions on some cool spots to visit while we're in town?
Pretty much all the touristy stuff is right next to the arena. The aquarium, World of Coke, College Football HoF, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and I think there are still tours at CNN Center? It’s not as close to the arena but the High Museum might be interesting. There’s probably some cooler off the beaten path stuff but now that I’m not in the city pretty much every day for work I don’t really know what’s cool anymore lol
The Aquarium is absolutely insane. Day drinking, going to the aquarium, then going to the rep tour is one of my favorite days ever.
It really depends what you like to do but a few suggestions: - Aquarium is one of the best I've been to and I have actually been to a fair few, it's truly got some spectacular exhibits among the best in the world. - Botanical garden is pretty good too. - I wouldn't really recommend the Zoo, it's pretty average to me. - I am a big fan of the Beltline, the eastside trail is what I know most, but there are other sections too (Westside etc). You could park (or uber) to Piedmont park or ponce city market and start walking it and you'll go by plenty of bars / restaurants / breweries. A lot of them are 'over priced' as it's touristy, but on good weather, a bar crawl down that part of the beltline is a great time despite the premium on beers. It does get crowed though to the point that it's hard to even ride a bird or a bike on the path anymore so be prepared to walk. The stretch I'm describing is fully complete and maybe 2-3 miles long? - The illuminarium is on the beltline. I haven't been yet, but it's like interactive bar with different showings (at one point it was a safari, I think they did a space themed one as well). Check their website for more info since I've never attended, just felt it looked cool. - Breweries abound - Wild heaven, wild leap, 3 taverns, new realm, monday night, scofflaw, firemaker (just to name a few of the top of my head, all with different styles and tap room areas). - Late night fun, the clermont lounge is one of Atlanta's most famous bars. It's technically a strip club, but it is far from your typical. You'll need cash for everything (entry and drinks), and go late, and except a line and a wild time and maybe a celeb sighting. - I'd say Atlanta united game, but it's an evening game and conflicts with your concert. If you're ever back in town, that stadium is fantastic, and the city loves Soccer, and even if it's not a sport you like, you'll find an electric experience. - Bites to eat that I like in no particular order, these are all relatively casual places, not throwing fine dining at you: The Vortex / Six Feet Under / La Fonda / El Tesoro / Big Daves Cheesesteaks / Ponce City Market & Krog Street Market have good spots in them (these are food courts). Breakfast = Homegrown / Emerald City Bagels / Petit Chou / Folk Art However, Atlanta is extremely spread out with crumby public transportation, and each neighborhood is different and because travelling around is not so easy other than with uber, people find their favorite pockets. I'm clearly showing a bias for the neighborhoods I like that may not reflect other people's opinions.
This is fantastic, I really appreciate you taking the time to type this all out!! Forwarding these to the group chat now. We will be hitting up the Illuminarium, just deciding which day. My company is hosting an event there in October and I really wanted to see it in person.
WOW. Somebody just liked this post and it brought back all of my pandemic anxiety lol this was one of the first shows Smith’s Olde Bar cancelled in March 2020 I had done so well in Jacksonville FL as a local artist and this was me taking the “next step” and trying to do it again in the much bigger city of Atlanta. I wanted to be an act people were booking all over the southeast. I waited months to book that first gig because I wanted to make sure I was approaching the music scene with humility and really getting to know people first. And then like a week before the show is when it got obvious that COVID was gonna be a legit generational event and shows weren’t gonna be happening for awhile. I had to move to DC/Baltimore area (where I went to college) because of reasons, but now I’m finally getting back out there, my first legit shows since then were this year. But damn this brought back how disappointed I was. It’s been 4 years since I played my last show in Jacksonville
Sorry man, that was me ha. I didn't look at the date before I liked it and I love Smiths Olde bar. Sorry about your journey after Covid but it's also great to hear you're still at it and doing your best to work around the setback!
yeah things have a way of coming full circle. I’m actually hitting Smith’s Olde Bar again later this summer lol, August 29.
Anyone that might want to come to my band’s show at Star Bar tonight? Here’s our instagram https://instagram.com/terrainofficial Here’s a sample of us live:
Nice. Looks like you're from Baltimore - I lived there before Atlanta - Go O's! Also I have been here forever and never been to this bar so at the very least thanks for putting it on my radar. I may stop by though as it's so close to me. I've been trying to see more shows with local and up and coming artists and discovering these types of places in the ATL. If you have a chance, grab a Vortex burger next door - they are top notch though I normally go to the Midtown location but the one you're by is the OG. Or really stop by anywhere in that neighborhood... L5P is a fun, eclectic little spot.
