Except Grand Budapest which is his best. Edit: Misread this as 3 or 4, so hopefully the one excluded is GBH.
I was a big fan of The French Dispatch and loved Isle of Dogs. Moonrise Kingdom is my favourite thing he's done.
French Dispatch and Life Aquatic are the only two I haven't really like. Haven't seen Isle of Dogs yet though.
The Life Aquatic is like a parody of a Wes Anderson film. His first three films are still amazing, though.
I'd argue it's his formula to complete excess - one man's parody, another's interesting experiment. It's not a top tier Wes film, but it is one I'm glad exists and occasionally return to.
There's a real heart to the relationships in his first films. Chaz telling his father he had a rough year, Max finally admitting to Blume that his father is a barber, Richie reconnecting with Margot after his suicide attempt. It was a great balance between that and the artificial nature of his settings. Since then it has felt like the intricate sets are the priority and not the backdrop.
I don't disagree with that, though I think Grand Budapest is at least in the ballpark in that regard (and easily his best since at least Darjeeling if not before that).
The MTV Movie Awards had a lot of fun skits like that. For years they highlighted a lot of great films before becoming ultra generic.
This movie is fantastic. I found it really touching. Proof there is only one Wes Anderson, and A.I. will never pull off what he's doing
