S/T is a treasure. Pinnacle of their sound and a true classic album. YCTIWY felt more like a really strong experimental album to me. Check out the band Sunfold. All their releases are really great and share some traits with ATAL, at least imo
I want to like the black and white but never go back to it. I'd love ATAL to come back but I don't think that will ever happen
I'm FINALLY checking out the other albums besides S/T and honestly... I already love You Can't Take It With You even more. I adore S/T for the specific sound it goes for, but in my mind it does stay in that sonic lane pretty consistently and a few tracks sound pretty similar to each other. YCTIWY has a ton more sonic diversity and is absolutely blowing me away.
I agree that YCTIWY is more diverse sonically but I think they hit their songwriting stride with S/T. The lyrics and the melodies... just the right amount of ambience and experimentation. In my mind, a perfect album.
Both albums are top-notch, I can see the argument made for either honestly. Gonna dig into Lafcadio later.
I keep playing Where Do I Stand, then it rolls into Maybe I'm Just Tired, plus the silence, plus the hidden track. My favorite 10 minutes of music right now.
The self-titled album is really connecting with me this morning. I thought for a long time that You Can’t Take It With You was my favorite by this band, but the self-titled really is so mesmerizing. Feels like a dream in the best possible way.
I could never really connect with You Can't Take It with You like I did their first two (which stand as two of my favorite albums from the 2000s). I've always wished I could hear in it what its fans do.
