Every album I feel like these guys just try to cosplay as other bands. Based on this song, it's Waterparks and ADTR.
That literally sounds like ADTR and that’s not a compliment. For a band who had such a solid debut they’ve really gone off the rails trend hoping.
It’s alright though I feel like it’s a slight step down from the debut. The last album and what I’ve heard so far from this are way too gimmicky and forced for my liking.
Other than the pre-chorus gang vocals, I'm not really hearing the ADTR connections y'all are. It kinda reminds of Lil Lotus in the verses, and seems kinda Paramore-ish in the chorus, but ultimately it feels like they finally find the sound that fits them. I think after spending a couple album cycles trying to find their sound, they finally hit something that feels like it sticks out. Not saying that I didn't like their past couple albums, but the whole 1950's gimmick & MCR cosplaying made them easy to clown on these past couple album cycles. I get that some people will always think Patty is cringe, go and god bless honestly, but I'm hoping this album does something for them. I'll miss the Taking Back Sunday influences Ben brought to the band, but after losing 3 members these past couple years I'm super glad they're still around.
The only thing that reminds me of ADTR is part of the chorus sounds a bit like Jeremy which is a fairly tenuous connection really. Song is fun. Not amazing, but fun. I like it, but I don't love it. I hope they can build on the last album which had moments of genuine greatness mixed with a lot of mediocrity. They have a real knack for choruses, they just need to build around them.
Ngl, i’m not big on this band other than Dial Tones and Boys Don’t Cry but i think this song slaps. Very into it.
Cool tidbits from that interview: -They wrote/recorded the album virtually in different studios -Zach Jones (Nova Twins, Poorstacy, CrownTheEmpire) produced the record -Set It Off & The Word Alive have guest features -Various drummers worked on the album in Foley's absence
Completely forgot this album was coming out. Only realised when I clicked on "I Hate Me Too" on YouTube and it said "available now". Promotion for this album has been all sorts of borked. judging from the streaming numbers I wasn't the only one either EDIT: On first listen, this album is... not good, with a few reminders of how good this band can be. I'd go so far as to call I'd Rather Die one of the worst songs they've ever released.
I really like this album, but I don't like it in any remarkable way tbh. I Hate Me Too, I Miss 2003, & I Can't Feel A Thing are some of the strongest songs in their discography, but I think they're at their best writing concept albums.
trying so hard to hop on the emo nostalgia trend to jumpstart their career and just failing miserably. you hate to see it
As It Is https://www.facebook.com/asitisofficial/ Updated store banner and social photos suggesting band might be off hiatus. Take with a pinch of salt but rumours from the Slam Dunk fan group are Ben is rejoining too.
Ben rejoining would spark my interest again. They were labeled at ‘Tumblrcore’ in the early days for many, but they’ve had some solid material across the board.
Patty & Ben presented Sleep Token's "best album" award at the HMA's the other day! Seems like they're back together!
