The first part of the new Arrows In Action record, called I Think I’ve Been Here Before (Side A), is a slick collection of six songs that highlight the new direction that the band took during these sessions. The band consists of Victor Viramontes-Pattison (Vocals, Guitar), Matthew Fowler (Guitar), and Jesse Frimmel (Drums), and their great chemistry of playing music together continues from their great 2023 full-length debut, Built To Last. The themes on the first part of their new album range from anxiety, to blissful romances, all the way to feelings of familiar places to help tie everything together. Arrows In Action will be supporting the new record with several new tours, including Download Festival, the resurgence of the Vans Warped Tour, and the Summer School Tour with Taylor Acorn. With tons of positive momentum going in their favor, 2025 is poised to be a big year for Arrows In Action.

The set was produced by Dan Swank, who tours with All Time Low as a backing guitarist, and he leaves a unique blueprint of great pop-punk paired with electronic elements to further the development of Arrows In Action. The record kicks off with “Celebration” that is a song about coming to the realization that you’re meant for bigger things. The band sounds triumphant on the opening chorus of, “It’s like I had a revelation / Now my colors have changed / I’m done inhaling the pollution / That’s been rotting my brain / I’m only feeling good vibrations / When I’m chasing the highs / Don’t over-complicate it / Kill the past, raise a glass, call it a celebration.” The good vibes set the tone for the majority of the record, and it makes for a nice-sounding opening statement.

The frenetic drumming from Jesse Frimmel dominates on “Feel It Again,” an energetic song about wanting to get back that feeling of romantic bliss. Viramontes-Pattison describes the build up to this feeling in the pre-chorus of, “And in the morning / I’ll be wasted on you / I want it, I-I-I want it / Don’t stop / What we started.” The band rallies around the singer’s every lyric and showcases the band’s steady confidence. “Hello Sunlight!” follows with a very 90’s-type of beat and production by Swank, and the track plays out like LEN’s classic of “Steal My Sunshine.”

The band adds some variety with some great starts and stops to the beats/guitar-riffing on the single of “Light Like You.” The band describes a chance meeting with a future love as they sing, “I met her two drinks into Tuesday / Her pupils were small at the time / I told her I’m fighting the blues, babe / And she gave me the most conspiratorial smile / She had glitter on her lips / Now I got glitter on my cheek / She put my hands up on her hips / Then she leaned into me.” The band does a good job of describing an instant connection between two people.

”Lost in the Moment” describes the fleeting feeling of losing grip on the ones we want to be with the most on the pre-chorus of, “Man, I hate this part / Breaks my heart / Leave me breathless with a kiss and watch me fall apart.” The song is filled with shimmering synths and great guitar parts to add into the “shiny” feeling of the record as a whole. “Déjà Vu” closes out this first chapter of the two-part record on the right note as Arrows In Action describe this familiar feeling with the slick lyrics in the bridge of, “The night is young / I’ll meet you there / ‘Cause nothing in / This world compares / The night is young / I’ll meet you there.” Arrows In Action continue to impress on I Think I’ve Been Here Before (Side A), and make me really excited for (Side B).
