Incredible film that I really want to watch through again. Saw it in theaters, and bought it on 4K bluray the day it released, but still haven't watched it because you really have to be in the right mood to watch it. My wife enjoyed it as much as I did, but the whole story revolves around a dying child, and as parents, it makes us feel some kind of way. Mark of a truly powerful film. Added spoiler tags, just to be safe.
A lot of people want to call BR 2049 Villeneuve's magnum opus but on an emotional level I think Arrival is his best work. What a movie.
I have, actually. It was great but devastating as hell and I've tried to bury it in the back of my mind since my first viewing. Haha.
Enemy is fantastic, but Prisoners and Arrival are better I think. Maybe even Sicario. Hell I don’t know.
I wish I could relive my first time watching Arrival. Shit was like magic. One of the only movies in recent memory that I saw twice in theaters
That's awesome. I love how their language looks. This is one of the few examples I can think of where the movie is better than the source material. and I think Ted Chiang is a fucking genius. I know this is his most popular story but I thought it was one of the weaker ones of his (sadly!) only collection. Villeneuve and co really nailed it
I bought his book and the one about angels coming to earth as natural disasters was insane. One of the coolest short stories I’ve ever read.
I hate that my brain can't help but Trumpify your statement, ugh. The word "sad" is ruined forever lol
I read Chiang's short story collection last year, I consider myself a fairly competent reader but many of his stories were way over my head. The Tower of Babylon story or whatever was amazing, but the rest are so dense and mathematical it was hard to keep up. The story on which Arrival is based is good but yeah, the movie is better.
Arrival Enemy Prisoners Blade Runner 2049 Sicario Haven't seen his others, but those five range from "I adore it" to "pretty good", so I'm sure the others are good too.
