I'm trying so hard not to be condescending in replying to you but do you really value not clicking on tags more than you value active discussion?
hey @Jason Tate can you just weigh in on this I'm sorry for even wasting your time with such an absurd argument
Yes, but I mean, this only really applies to Netflix type release shows. It doesn’t apply to movies or any “normal” tv show. And really, it’s that I value not seeing spoilers for the show before I get to it. So I don’t engage in that thread as to not cheapen any moments for me. If I want to express a thought, I can, but the great thing about notifications is that I can easily respond to any responses later.
Like, fuck, if someone came in here to just talk and ask about the show to see if it’s something they’d be interested in, the idea that they could just have multiple moments spoiled by inquiring about a show is shitty to me, especially when it can be avoided with tags.
It's funny because you can literally type two extra words on each end of a sentence, like everybody else in this thread wants to do, and avoid that. But POLICY tells you you....can't do that?
But it doesn't only apply to Netflix style shows. It applies to games as well. Some games are a whopping 50+ hours experience. Expecting someone a day after launch to have powered through the thing right when it came out is absurd. People should be able to ask for help, talk about what they like and didn't like and ask for clarification or whatever on anything without feeling like they're going to walk into a minefield or worse, feel like they're actively being excluded or discouraged for engaging with the community. The spoiler tag policy literally only makes sense for movies by your "it's only two hours of your life, let's ignore people that don't revolve their life around media and pop culture" point of view.
From the review: The series even audaciously references Jeffrey Tambor's ignominious ouster from Amazon's Transparent, prompted by sexual-misconduct allegations against the actor. Ron Howard's narrator, referring to the events of this season of Arrested Development, says, “George Sr. soon learned his impression of a woman wasn't going to win him any awards, so he took off for Mexico to forget his shameful mistakes.” Yikes
I have never had a problem, but I'm curious what kind of annoyances you're running into. Maybe we can help?
Policy says you don’t have to after a certain time. Your way assumes I would never accidentally click a tag and see something I don’t want to see. I don’t want that to happen, so I simply stay out of the thread.
Weigh in on what? The spoiler policy is pretty clear for what people should expect once a movie or show has aired. If you wanna use them after you can, but don’t expect anyone to after something has been released. If you’re spoiler adverse, avoid threads of media after it’s out. The policy of “expect spoilers after the release” is the only way to make it clear what you may seen in a thread if you’re in it after it’s out.
Scrolling while reading through big chunks of spoiler tags is annoying because it keeps going back and forth between being blacked out and visible. And if you mistakenly double-tap, it takes you to the top of the page. It’s not a big deal, obviously, but it is annoying.
1) We preface spoiler tags with episode number. Example. EPISODE 4 SPOILER Tobias does something whacky So if you fuck that up, that's on you. 2) Then YOU can stay out of the thread, but literally every other person here wants to use spoiler tags and talk about the show episode by episode. You're the one saying you won't use them.[/spoiler] [edit] the irony is not lost on me that I fucked up that spoiler tag haha, but still... it's better than not even trying.
I have no problems with the current spoilers rules. It’s common sense to not go into a thread for something that’s out and available to watch.
I agree that there can't really be a modification put in place for the rules. I like how Jason has it worded. With that being said, there's a difference between doing things simply because of the rules of a site and doing something for the courtesy of the people you regularly interact with. I'm not necessarily mad at anyone for posting without spoiler tags the day of a release, but I also would probably tag stuff if I see something at a midnight release/the day of or if I'm running through a Netflix release on the day of.
