Halfway through new S4. Feel safe saying at this point that its is significantly worse. Whereas the original S4 exemplified "show don't tell", this one is basically "Ron Howard spends half the episode telling you what happened so you understand why this is funny"
There is a bit too much of that, yea. Still really enjoying it though. Marky charged with “non-Arab terrorism” lol
I'm enjoying it too. There are a lot of really great jokes in the season (though it still suffers from a handful of bad storylines). I just think the original cut did a better job presenting the jokes.
When he first gets to Arizona and burns himself on the door handle. They still have the heat joke with Tobias, but I felt like the Arizona one set the tempo.
This remix really does work well for the most part. Putting most of the cast in each episode even when they’re rarely in the same scenes truly does make it feel more like the first three seasons. They should have done it that way the first time but I guess that would have been really hard to do without having the original cut first. Also, season 4’s story is still not really told in order so to me it kind of accomplishes what they were going for the first time they released it in a more effective way. For example, episode ten reveals what George Michael’s app from the previous episode really is and that he orchestrated getting Mabey as the student he tutored. It’s less all over the place and the reveals happen closer to the beginning of their respective storylines, which makes it a lot less confusing and disorienting.
I definitely prefer the original cut, especially because of the excess extra narration in the new one, but I'm still enjoying the re-cut a lot. It's a cool alternate look at the same material, which is really all I wanted in the first place. The OG S4 cut is still there, albeit buried amongst "Trailers & Extras" in the menu.
I prefer the recut but I still felt exhausted trying to keep up with everything by the time I got to the end of the season. There’s just so much exposition.
The new cut is 1000x better. My only real complaint with S4 at this point is that for a show that has typically had INCREDIBLE secondary characters and cameos, I just find many of those in this season unfunny. Heartfire, Dr. Norman, Marky and Debrie......did not care for ANY of them nor find them very funny, and Marky and Debrie in particular get way too much screen time. Give me Tony Wonder and Carl Weathers all day long.
Entourage was not a cultural reference I understood in 2013 but I laughed so hard at “and Jermey Piven” in the recut.
the running joke of him, gob and george michael constantly being terrified of his hand/lack of never gets old to me
