A gimmick is "a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business", so I think that fits close to what I mean when it comes to comedy. The idea to have Memento unfold in the way it does is gimmicky in that it's a device to make a rather straight forward and uninteresting story seem interesting.
Blue collar guys poke fun at themselves and stereotypes attributed to them. Puppet guy's act is 90 % terrorist jokes in a racist accent.
Yeah that's not really accurate when it comes to literally all comedy but if that's your interpretation then that's your interpretation. Also I never said Memento doesn't have a gimmick so I don't know where the second sentence is coming from. Memento is a great movie though, gimmick and all.
Ok, but that doesn't change the simple statement that they both use gimmicks. It's not a comment on their relative quality compared to each other (although for the record I think they're all hacks).
I don’t want to perpetuate this argument but I will say that Nolan has said he wanted to have the viewers empathize with the main characters feeling of not knowing what just happened before and the way he presented the story that’s the only way it could happen. When I hear gimmick I think of something that was used for the sole purpose of attracting an audience. Nolan’s intentions were solely on how we perceive the story. Just my thoughts. K I’m done.
Favorite arrested development characters? 1. Tobias 2. Buster 3. Gob 4. Lucille 5. Barry (he’s very good)
Of the main cast? GOB Lucille Tobias Buster Michael Of the side characters Franklin Bluth Barry Carl Weathers Tony Wonder Kitty
I understand this reasoning. I'm just saying that the story itself, regardless of how it's told, isn't good to me in general.
That guys opinion on all comedy being a gimmick might be the worst opinion of all time, in my opinion.
Will be interested to see how much George Sr is in Season 5 given the allegations against Jeffrey Tambor.
What’s cool is that I kind of totally forgot how each character left off in season 4 so I’m excited to see the remix. I think all I remember is Mike takes the roofie? Can’t remember if that was the last scene or not
God damn, the first time I saw the roofie cycle scene is one of the more magical moments of my life. So ridiculous
