The first album was interesting but didn't quite do enough to stand out from the pack for me, this kinda feels the same on first listen, but I will say that "You Ominously End" is really the one for me. That song rules. Something about this band's half-yelled vocals reminds me of things I don't like about Hot Mulligan's vocalist. But I also get the sense this band is a grower, and when they hit for me they really do hit.
The lyrics to a song like Halley are to me why this band is head and shoulders above anyone else in the genre
All of “Fatal Flaw” is excellent, but from “The moon keeps the sun at arm’s length” through the end it’s just
Morning Person has really grown on me. I still think Dirge is a superior closer, but it's such a good song.
keep going back to Palinopsia, Genetic Lottery, and Attic been starting my days with Morning Person since this came out though
okay I'm starting to get this more. Like I still think this band hasn't written their best record yet, but a lot of these are hitting more on a second listen.
There are times when Morning Person reminds me so much of the Hotelier. The vocal melody feels so familiar, in a good way. The more I listen, the more I love this. Really loving it start to finish.
On the "the more I listen, the better this gets" train fully now. Having a hard time not starting the album over as soon as it ends at this point.
I think it's interesting to note that the singer doesn't like Keep You by Pianos. "Pianos Become the Teeth would also be there, up until Keep You." He mentions the specific songs from them he used in that brooklyn vegan video.
